early in the morning or very late at night, cas came into the bunker, forlorn and exhausted from being human, the constant need to eat and drink or even sleep was merely overwhelming to the former angel.
the steps seemed miles away from the ground, and dean must have heard because he came down the hallway, and sat at a chair by the map table.
"look who finally decided to show," he pulled the metal cap off a beer and threw feet onto the table.
"it's difficult, you know," cas, at the bottom of the stairs, sat adjacent from him.
dean chuckled and shook his head.
"i do know." l
cas looked up at him.
"beer?"
"no,"
"too good for beer?"
"no, it just doesn't do anything."
dean looked up from at him.
"you even had a beer since becomin' human?"
cas hesitated a moment before shaking his head, and dean chuckled again, before standing and walking to the kitchen.
"dean, no i-" dean walked back in, carrying the half-empty box of jäger, plopping it on the table before sitting back down.
"drink."
"dean, it's late, i'm tired,"
"come on," he persisted, and cas slowly but surely, after nagging from dean, pulled one of the glass bottles out the pack and struggled to crack the lid.
"here," dean reached across the table and gently rubbed his hand against cas' fingers when he took the bottle.
it startled cas a bit, the human touch felt different than before.
dean handed back the open bottle, which had a small bit of air puff out the top.
cas took a small swig and nearly flinched.
"too much?" dean joked and leaned back in the roller chair.
"not used to it." dean chuckled once more and shook his head at the ceiling.
"obviously not."
cas took another drink before sitting it down.
dean was leaning back so that his shirt tugged against his biceps, and revealed lower torso.
"so how's gas n sip treating ya?" dean finally commented, and while cas was taking a drink.
"it's fine," he sighed and leaned back as well.
dean moved back to a normal sitting position, and cas pretended not to notice, because it seemed as though dean was staring at him.
"it's good to have you back," he finally spoke, and cas moved, which made dean move from where he was looking.
"good to be back." dean smiled and took a drink, before walking over, behind cas, and back to the library. cas watched him walk down the two, narrow steps and flick on the light.
he walked over to one of the bookshelves on the left, and kneeled down, and cas followed him in the room after a minute.
he pulled out a what-looked-to-be jewelry box, and set it on one of the tables.
cas walked over to him, and felt dean take a deep breath when he opened it; pictures of the three boys, dean, cas and sam.
dean pulled out one of just he and cas; it was on halloween, dean wore one of those 'this is my costume' buttons, and cas used minimal magic, just enough to entertain the kids when they came trick or treating.
dean was laughing at cas in the photo, because cas had made the candy levitate from the bowl and fly into the kid's baskets, which of course was scary for the kids, but normal for them.
dean chuckled and rubbed his thumb across he side of the photograph.
cas looked up at him, and he seemed so peaceful, so close to nirvana.
cas didn't notice he was staring until dean looked up also, but it wasn't awkward, there were no head-turns or blushing, they just stared at each other, for what seemed like a long time.
"i miss when it was just fun," dean finally said, so quietly it seemed like a breathy whisper.
"friends," he finally breathed, and cas looked down at his hand, which now had dean's hand over it, and he looked up at dean, who was looking down as well.
they both looked up, and dean took a breath before rushing into cas like a storm, grabbing his face and pressing him against a different table, lips corresponding to eachother, and cas seemed to moan when dean bit cas' bottom lip.
cas struggled to find where to put his own hand, before dean took it, entwining his fingers with cas', and pinning them against the table.
it was them, just the two of them, hands trailing up each other's shirts, and not knowing what they were doing but just knowing how badly they had wanted it, and for so long it seemed.
dean's mouth trailed down cas' neck, across his adam's apple and to below his collar bone, where he nipped a bit, making cas sigh harshly, and grip tightly onto dean's bicep.
it was all in the heat of the moment, and the rush of adrenaline; how it seemed to course through the boy's veins, how they kissed and touched and whether it be out of meaning or just pure greed.
they pulled away, only to look into eachother's eyes, and cas was the first to smile, chuckle, and his face was red, not out of embarrassment, but out of happiness- they had both wanted this for so long, and not even known it.
"i miss-" dean cut himself off from being out of breath, and finally shook his head, chuckling from delight.
"i miss this."
