"Lunch time, thank the gods!"
"Oi, Lady Ella of the house Get Your Ass Moving, stop with the prayers and let's get going. My mom's food is gonna be all cold when we get to my place because of your noble lazy ass!" Steve screamed through the hall of lockers where Ella was putting her stuff. At Mondays they didn't have classes on the afternoon so they all had lunch and hung out at Steve's house.
"Steve, not everything is about my ass. Try to think of something else." Said Ella mocking Steve while walking towards the gates of the school where James and Connor were already waiting.
"Wait, where is Lady Margot of the house Pain In My Ass?"
"I'm here, Steven of the house Obnoxious Douchebag" Said Margot running towards her four friends with a girl by her side.
"Oh right! Sorry Diane, I totally forgot you were coming with us."
"Oh I'm sorry, if it is inconvenient..."
"Bullshit, he just has his head on the clouds at all times! You are more than welcome to come with us, just try and get used to Steve." James interrupted. Steve rolled his eyes at James.
They all got in the bus and soon arrived at Steve's place. It was a big house. It had three floors. On the first floor there was the kitchen, the living room, a bathroom, Steve's Father's Study and the dining room. On the Second floor there was Steve's parent's room, two bathrooms, Steve's sister's, Lizzie's, room and Steve's room. In the basement there was just a big open space with a tv, two large couches and a game console. That was where they hung out. They called it "The Nerd Cave".
They ate lunch in the dining room very fast because they were in the presence of Steve's mom, Sarah, and Lizzie. After lunch they all hurried to the basement where Steve and James started playing video games and the rest was left to banter.
"Welcome to The Nerd Cave, Diane!" Said Ella, proudly.
"So Diane, why did you move to our school?" Asked Connor.
"Well, I was born here but my parents had to move to California for work when I was seven. After a few years there we came back and we... I needed a school I guess." She said, laughing nervously at the end. They all laughed.
"It must have been harsh, no? Going to the U.S.A. with no friends. And coming back, do you have any old friends?" Said Margot with a worried look. This question made Diane look a bit sad.
"Well Margot, you always know how to ask the best questions, don't you?" Said Steve, still very focused on his game.
"Thought you were playing. Maybe, if you just focus on one thing at a time, you might be good at something for the first time in your life." She snapped back harshly.
"Jeez, are these two always like this? Did they date or something? " Diane asked Ella, leaning towards her.
"They didn't, but Ella and Steve did!" Said James, simply trying to piss of Ella.
Ella ignored him.
"Yup, you just gotta get used to them. I mean, I am like this with Steve sometimes..."
"Most times!" Connor interrupted.
"Okay, yeah, most times. But it really is just Steve's fault. That dude really has a talent for pissing of people." Ella and Diane laughed.
For a moment the whole world stopped and the only thing happening was this moment between Ella and Diane. The way her eyes squinted when she laughed or smiled.
"What is the matter with you Ella!? Why are you thinking this stuff. Get over it girl, she's probably straight anyway. You can't have a crush on this girl! You barely even know her! "
"So Diane, tell us more about you!" Said Margot, fresh from a word fight with Steve.
"Well, what do you want to know?" The girl asked with a sweet smile.
"Favourite colour? Favourite movie? Favourite book? Favourite type of ice cream?" Said an almost obsessive Margot.
"I'm sorry Diane, you are going to have to forgive Margot, she isn't used to contact with humans other than us." Ella said, putting her arm around Margot's shoulders as if she was taking care of a mentally ill person.
"No problem!" She laughed. "My favourite colour is yellow, my favourite movie is Pulp Fiction, my favourite book is Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban and my favourite ice cream flavours are Salted caramel and mint with chocolate." She said chuckling.
"Momma Ella, can we keep her?" Said Steve faking a baby voice.
"We sure do.." Said Ella laughing.
In that moment Ella saw that it wasn't just her looks. They had the same favourite book and ice cream flavours. She loved Pulp Fiction and the only reason she didn't wear yellow was her really pale skin.
"She's perfect!" Ella thought. "But I can't have a crush on her! Walk it off sucker!"
