Chapter 1: Announcing The Inevitable
I was choreographing my new routine for my junior hip hop class that I taught in the summer when Frank popped his head in the door at the top of the stairs of the basement, “Mia, mom wants you to come upstairs to set the table before Lindsey and Ethan get here.”
“She probably asked you, and you’re just too lazy to do it yourself…” I mumbled knowing that I was right.
“Yep.” He said and walked away.
I shook my head and walked over to the control board for the speakers. It was a full wall unit with CDs, records, record player, and a fully equipped audio customizing system. The basement was pretty much a self-customized dance studio with a full wall of mirrors, a ballet bar, dance floor, and speakers placed generously around the room for a surround sound affect. The walls were a calming robin’s egg blue with black accents everywhere leading into a separate room otherwise known as the “man cave” which dad and Frank both claimed was necessary.
I chugged the remaining water from my water bottle and made my way up the hard oak stairs.
“Mia, would you set the table, I think your brother is too incompetent to listen and execute instruction,” mom said giving Frank a “really” look and my brother grinning innocently, like he could be innocent. With his hard bone structure resembling a scary amount to my dad’s facial make up, he had too much of a rugged, edgy look to pass as innocent.
“Sure,” I said and headed for the plates.
