it's funny. because that small piece of information that hailey gave out to ethan brought them closer. sure, it was just her name but ethan was proud because he felt she trusted him enough. not fully, but enough.
and so, they met at the cafe everyday now. their routine was easy enough. all they had to do was be in each other's presence and that was enough. small conversations here and there but other than that, complete silence.
talking wasn't really needed.
so when ethan asked hailey out on a date, she was speechless to say the least. though, she wasn't surprised because he had been hitting on her ever since they met.
and the reason she was speechless? she's never been asked out on a date. for all 25 years of her living on this planet.
as time passed, ethan started growing nervous with her lack of response. he started fidgeting with his fingers under the table, the confident smile he had when he asked her still on his face.
when hailey realised it was too long since he asked, she tried to respond. key word, tried. needless to say, there was a lot of stuttering and blushing.
"uhh"
"is that a yes?"
"uhh"
"i'm taking that as a yes."
"uhh...yes!" hailey suddenly shouted out, a blush appearing on her cheeks when the whole cafe turned quiet and everyone stared at her. she hid her face behind her hair.
ethan smiled. he was so, so happy. "finally, for a minute there, i thought you became a statue. but that's okay because then i would be able to stare at your beautiful features longer." he tried not to show how happy he was, knowing he would do something dorky. so he teased her.
"shut up!" hailey said, though there was no malice in her tone.
after staring at each other for what seemed like an eternity, they smiled at one another.
"meet here at 8pm on wednesday next week."
