Whew! It's been a while!

Anyway, today's chapter on ships has to do with Luke and Annabeth!

Yes, Luke is dead. I know.

Now that that's out of the way, let's continue.

I don't know if I ever truly supported this ship only because it was never told from their perspectives. The PJO series was entirely Percy, and only Percy. It wasn't like a third person, HoO chapter. It was first person entirely. Imagine if the series was told like Heroes of Olympus. Of course, as readers it's our job to respect the author's stance on point of view and perspective, and we do (most of the time), but that still leaves a lot of space to wonder.

We never get a Luke POV. But, in Mark of Athena, we get Annabeth's for the first time. By then, she's with Percy. I do appreciate how, through Percy, Rick Riordan managed to convey such a strong and intimate relationship between Luke and Annabeth. This happens through Hestia's visions (HEY, speaking of Hestia, go check out my Daughter of Hestia; it has more than 1k+ reads, okay?). I still feel like most of their relationship was confusion.

When Annabeth was little, Luke was her savior. He was her brother, and, even though she denies it in The Last Olympian, she loved him as more than a friend. However, we as readers don't really get to know what their relationship was like since the time Annabeth arrived at camp all the way to when Percy comes into the picture. It's a huge gray area. When Annabeth introduces Percy to Luke as a new camper to stay in the undecided Hermes cabin, she blushes. It's really formal, and Luke hardly treats her like she's any different from another random demigod camper. Since Thalia turned into a tree, it seems they were broken apart.

Their relationship gets much more involved after Percy arrives. Again, a lot of it is confusion and I bet Rick grappled with how to push Annabeth and Percy closer together (first as comrades), while making Luke a "villain." I'll say "villain" because Luke's initially seen as one until he dies (plus I don't want to get attacked in the comments).

Luke is occasionally mentioned/thought of (I can't say for sure if any chapters mention his name) in HoO, which can be passed off as just a nostalgic way for readers to remember PJO. But it also brings in the question as to who's really the bad guy, and if any major plot twists are to come.

Ah yes, Luke and Annabeth. A more sibling relationship rather than romantic, and the tip of the iceberg is hardly touched upon, but the comradely the two had cannot be denied.
