Farewell Gift

A/N: So I don't really plan on continuing this book. I've lost all interest and I'm not really into PJO as I used to. As a last goodbye to this book I shall give you all the chapter I have been sitting on for so long. I've had this in my drafts for a very long time; this was made after some of the earlier chapters, but I never posted it because it was a future event. Since I won't be continuing this book I thought it'd be fair to give you all this chapter as a parting gift. I will leave this book up for any that want to reread it since I did enjoy writing it. I've moved onto other stories and fandoms so I hope you check them out. If not that's fine. I hope you enjoy this bit of angst.

Alex's death scene~

It happened on a dark day. I had always imagined someone close to me having this happen to them, but I never thought it was going to be him. He was so close, but we could do nothing for him. We had just gotten a quest, Candace, Percy, Nico, Alex and myself. It was late in the afternoon when we had left for the maze. It was like a labyrinth, but it wasn't meant to have monsters in it.

"Are you sure this is the best first mission for the girls?" Alex asks Percy as we packed a few things for the trip. "Of course! They've trained long enough for them to be ready for this quest. All we're doing is retrieving a chalice that is supposedly important, but I think Dionysus just wants it to feel better for not being able to have wine anymore." Percy responds as he smiles at Alex. "I can't believe we're going on our very first mission!" Candace exclaimed loudly as she held onto my right arm. "Yeah, but I'm not sure this will be a fun mission. Remember 'The one of love will be sacrificed in maze of vines' so we have to be careful." I tell her only for her to scoff in the response. "None of us are Aphrodite's child so we'll be fine." Candace seemed cocky, but it is our first mission after all. "Don't get cocky Candace. That's what will get you killed." Alex says as he looks at her. "Shouldn't we get going?" Nico asks everyone despite being quiet most of the time. "Yeah! Let's go!" Candace says as she pulls me forward towards the direction we're supposed to go. The boys followed behind.

After traveling quite a ways, we reach the maze. It is like those hedge mazes that are used around Halloween or whenever, but with more vines than most that have some thorns on them. Something felt off so I pull out a keychain with a pearl on it and give it a slight swing which causes it to turn into a sword, Seapearl. "Don't let your guards down." I told them, but Candace didn't listen as she just rushed into the maze. "Candace!" I yell as run off after, but as I run after her I can hear something while I lose sight of her. I stop to hear what sounded like Minotaur, but that couldn't be possible. I carefully move around the maze until I heard a whisper. "You must leave now. You will die!" The whispers got quieter as I moved around in the maze. That's when I heard a scream, but it wasn't a good kind of scream. It sounded full of pain. I rushed quickly towards the direction of the scream while cutting vines out of my way. Soon my feet came to a stop as I saw Candace on the ground with a bruised arm that looked to be broken. "Candace what happened?" I ask her quietly as I moved closer to her. "Go! It's got him! Please! Go rescue him!" Before I could ask her who he is we heard the Minotaur running as if it is chasing someone. "Stay quiet." I told her in a stern voice before running off to go and fight the Minotaur. Until the running stopped as I heard blood piercing scream. I growl softly as I ran a bit farther until I saw the Minotaur ripping him to shreds.

My body felt so numb as all I could do is watch. Watch as skin ripped to expose muscle, blood, even bone. I listened to the munching of skin and muscle as blood escapes his body. His eyes full of tears as he stared at the sky. His dark gray eyes which used to be full of light and joy. His blonde locks started to become red as his blood hit his head. I'm not too sure how long I had been standing there, but at some point Candace had joined me in watching Alex being teared up for protecting her. Yet he wouldn't have it any other way to protect the girl he loved deeply. "NO!" Candace screams as she ran towards the Minotaur as her dagger, Deadlylove. "GET OFF OF HIM YOU UGLY MONSTER!" She yells as she, despite her broken arm, fights the Minotaur. Nico and Percy reach us and join the battle, but as hard as I try I couldn't move from my spot. Though it didn't matter they killed the Minotaur, his green mist disappeared back to the Underworld. "Alex!" I watched as Candace tried to save what was left of him, but all the life in his eyes had left him a long time ago. Her eyes filled with tears as she falls to her knees. She screams loudly as tears streamed down her face as a cloud of black shot out from her body. It killed everything it touched as Candace wept loudly; though it didn't touch any of us, but it sure killed all the plants in the maze. "Candace. It's time to go." Of course she just yelled at me before resting her head on Alex's bloody forehead. The boys looked everywhere other than Candace and Alex, but my eyes couldn't leave the sight.

Finally my body started to move as if now was the perfect time to move. I walked over to Candace as she practically laid there weeping. "Crying won't bring him back Candace. Now get up. We have to bury him." I help, more like force, Candace up off what was left of Alex's bloody body. "No! I curse the gods for letting him die! It should've been me! I SHOULD'VE DIED INSTEAD!" She yells out as she struggles in my grasp, but it's useless. Percy and Nico take Alex away from us as I held Candace close like she was a mother that had found out her child has been killed. The boys buried Alex properly as if to give Candace a place to visit if she ever needs to. Nico had found the chalice, but the mission wasn't worth the death that we had to experience.

As we head back dark clouds started to form in the sky. Not long after the clouds appeared in the sky it started pouring, along with thundering and lightning. It's as if the Gods were mourning the loss of Alex as well. Annabeth as well as the other children of Athena will be devastated when they are told their sibling is dead. As every clap of thunder is heard I flinch. I held back the tears from Alex's death and the panic attack I was having.

Once we arrived to the camp Nico took Candace to the Apollo cabin to get her arm looked at and healed. I took the chalice from Percy and made my way to Dionysus and Chiron. When I saw them in the Big House talking, I stormed inside as I slam down the chalice. "I hope this stupid cup was worth the quest." Before either one of them could ask what I meant I had already made my way outside. "(Y/n) there was nothing we could've done." I glare at Percy as all the emotions I had bottled up came pouring out. "Nothing? I COULD'VE SAVED HIM, BUT I WAS SO SCARED THAT I FROZE UP WITH FEAR! I LET ONE OF MY GREATEST FRIENDS DIE WITHOUT EVEN HELPING HIM! DO NOT TELL ME THERE WAS NOTHING TO DO! GODS I COULD'VE HELPED ALEX, BUT I JUST LET HIM DIE! IT'S ALL MY FAULT!" I yelled at him as the tears I had been holding back escaped my eyes. Percy was about to say something, but I ran away from him before he could get a word in.

It was all my fault even though everyone has told me he was already dead before I could get to him, but it's not true. I heard his last words, but I was too shocked by the scene in front of me I didn't register it as it was being said. "I love you Candace.." Those words have been engraved in my mind. I could've saved him, but as any being in this world I made a mistake, I hesitated and cost Alex his life. Now we'll have to tell his father that his son is dead because I was too afraid to move in and save him. I knew he did that on purpose, he knew one of them would have died before any of us could get to them so he risked his life for her safety. If only I had been there to save him.
