I finally get out of the suffocating locker room only to be slapped by a fresh scent of musk and heat. The AC didn't do any of us justice but the way that everyone else were either running, or chatting, they didn't seem to mind. I reach and put my hair into a messy bun. I watch for a moment as baggy white t-shirts and sport shorts hustle across the gym floor. Randy transformed my whole outfit; she cut the sleeves of my shirt off and re-sewed it to make it tighter and did the same to my now tight shorts. She called it a "fashion tragedy". I smile at the thought.

Since school started, gym's been pretty much a nightmare. First, I realize I'm all alone. I should've listened to Randy and took PE last year with her. Next, there's Jaycee. I grit my teeth at the very thought. I don't know her well enough to hate her and she doesn't know me well enough to make it so hard not to. But, it hasn't been all bad, I made a few friends: there's Josh, Isaac, and Evan. They weren't any major jocks and they didn't feed into the popular hierarchy... That was the best.

A piercing whistle cuts throughout the whole gym instantaneously silencing everyone in it.

"Alright, listen up!" Coach Wallace boomed. Everyone called him the "Wall". That wasn't even because of his name. He was a tall, barrel-chested man-- ex marine-- literally a wall. "Gather around and take a knee! Come on! Move!" He continued in his drill sergeant voice.

I jogged over to where Josh and Isaac were.

"Hey, Lys. What's up?" says Isaac.

"Nothing much. Ready to go home." I said. Isaac was a really cute boy with thick eyebrows and copper-colored eyes. He was more of a soccer guy. Though I never really cared for the sport, I still supported Isaac at his games.

"Yeah, I heard you had a busy morning." Josh smirked.

I was confused for a moment, then I remembered Jaycee. "Oh," I laughed. "That was nothing. Jaycee was just being, ugh." I said. Josh was more of a basketball guy. That was my sport. He was a tall, skinny (but still defined with muscle) boy with tan skin and blue eyes. Hairstyles was all that was need to differentiate him and his twin brother. Speaking of which, "where's Evan?" I asked.

"He skipped gym to hang with Valerie," Josh rolled his eyes. Valerie was Evan's new girlfriend. I sigh. I just hope he doesn't let this chick hurt him.

I look up beyond the crowd in front of us at Coach Wallace. Calvin is standing beside him. He's wearing a gray tank top and black shorts. Probably his own gym clothes. I don't think anyone else would notice, but there's a look of nervousness on his face as he looks around. His land on me and his plump pink lips stretch into a smile. Those dimples... again! I find that I smiled back. Josh clears his throat to get my attention and he wriggles his eyebrows. I punch him in the shoulder.

"Your fitness training and assessment is finally over," Coach says. "But, our new friend here hasn't been assessed yet."

"Oh, god. Please tell me we have to do this crap over again." A girl whispers I'm front of me.

"But," he let's anticipation run through everyone's bones. "Luckily, the coaches at his old school had contacted me and he's in great shape."

You can almost feel the relief of the room being expressed, though no one had said or done anything. Coach pats his shoulder to go have a seat.

"Ok, so, we've come to what everyone has been waiting for. We're gonna get into some sports!" He rubs his hands together excitedly. "You guys will be broken up into three groups: basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Basketball and soccer outside with Coach Tee and me and volleyball stays in here with Coach Schuller. Got it?"

We all knock twice on the hard wood floor, Coach Wallace's idea for our ok or yes.

"Alright then, break!" He places his whistle between his teeth and blows, causing everyone to hustle to their station. The coaches has the lists and annoyed by the fact that I wasn't on Coach Wallace's list for basketball. He told me that he knew I could play basketball, he wanted me to try one of the other sports. I didn't see how that was fair with Josh on the list for basketball, he was on the team. But then again, his group was filled with freshmen, he'd probably help coach or something. With I sigh, I tread my way over to the field where the teams were getting ready to be chosen for soccer.
