He chose to trust her with her words, whoever this teacher was. He had to have a special place in Nuria's life. His eyes swept back outside to watch as they traveled the lands. Every now and then he would sniff in the air just to check which territory they were on.
As the sun set danger clouded his senses, the mutt territory had been entered at dusk. A wave of unease washed over his body, a tingling ran under his skin as he felt the pressure to bolt back up north.
He grabbed the seat belt and loosened it, his eyes eagerly took in their surroundings. With his other hand he lowered the window just a fingers length to let their scents mingle and more importantly to let him know them better. His nose was bombarded by their distinct scent, they were missing a certain cleanliness about them. They weren't an original group, these people had made do and became what they were.
When he caught a certain scent in the air he was quick to shut the window. Pulling on the switch at bit to hard as the glass slid back up. "Isn't there another route around here?" he asked the driver.
In the distance he saw a man standing in the middle of the road, seemingly waiting. He had a wide stance as if trying to assert his dominance upon the land.
He knew it was this man's scent that shook him, the horrors of his childhood washed over him. He swallowed and slowly let his back straighten, the lean man started walking towards their vehicle pulling the distance between them a lot closer.
The car came to a stop and gave the driver a sideways glance, her expression was calm, tired even. Showing that driving all day had brought some strain.
As the man rounded the vehicle he dipped his head into view at the driver's side. Altan was quick to look to the left, away from him. He shut his eyes once he realized that all he did was show this man his smile.
"Tashudrel, I'd know that scent from anywhere." the sound of his voice was confirmation enough.
"You know it's custom for passers to ask permission to make it past here, I would expect that two elites would know this." Altan could feel his eyes on him, he slowly ran his tongue over his lips trying to bring moisture to the new found dryness.
"Altan..."
He slowly turned his head, the man had aged. His hair had been cut short and his blue eyes seemed to pierce him hard. "Teacher Creste," he smiled. "I haven't seen you in so long."
The man smiled, "that's true. You two should come to mines to rest, Miss Shudrel here looks like she will faint at any given time."
Nuria smiled, "that sounds amazing Alpha Creste."
She opened the door and undid her seatbelt, Altan watched her carefully as she got out of the car and pulled the seat for the older man to get in the back. Altan then kept his eyes on the man, never minding Nuria he settled himself in the middle and leant over the seats resting his forearms next to the head rests. "You had an altercation with your Shadow I see..."
The man had his eyebrow raised as he looked at Alan's face, the grin that ran from ear to ear making him easy to find. "I became Shadow in the end however..."
Creste through his head back in laughter just as Nuria shut the door. He seemed to find it the funniest thing in the world, "believe my surprise when I heard you became Shadow. An Alpha?!..." Altan watched as he hung his head in laughter, "you couldn't even hit my nephew."
