Imaginary friends

We walked the paved road of childhood
Together
Spent our time making secret clubs,
biting back our giggles of mischief.

The oceans of adulthood drifted our friendship apart
Washing away the memories of yesterday.

You found a boat along the way,
Sailing off into the sunset to discover another day.
Without me.

And the sad thing is,
I still spend my time looking at the waves
Of lost possibilities.
Wondering if it was all just like those games we used to play.
The ones of pretend.
I'm swaying in the seas of uncertainty,
Asking myself,
If you were the imaginary friend
Or if it was me.
