Next day onwards, Arthit changed a little. He became quieter. He would not indulge in their conversations. And kept his head inside a book whenever they were together.
He declined their invitations and fled as soon as the classes got over. But the thing which caught their attention was how he was glued to his phone.
His friends were not blind to not notice this, so on the third day when Arthit again was busy texting someone, Sharp asked,
" Hey, Arthit who are you texting?"
"Lemon"
His answer earned him loud oooohs. But Phana's head snapped up at that.
"Do you like her?"
"Yes"
"What!! That was fast. You didn't even have to think to answer. So you wanna date her?"
Phana's eyebrow shot up at that and he stared at Arthit to know his answer.
"What!! No!! I like her as a friend. And have told her so too, multiple times."
" Careful friend. I think she likes you. So you need to be clear with her", advised Thada.
" And I assume, you run away with her after the class ends, right?"
Arthit gulped, looked at Phana who was glaring at him and answered,
"Yeah"
"Arthit, Don't give her wrong ideas. Ok." , San advised him too.
"Hmm...ok", he answered and resumed eating his lunch, missing the clenched teeth of Phana.
But he was noticed by the ever observant San.

"Arthit!!"
"Oh, Lemon!!"
They had just finished their last class and were exiting the building when they noticed Lemon standing there.
He looked back at his friends, who gave him meaningful looks.
"Guys, I'll see you tomorrow", with that he left.
"That girl gonna confess real soon. Am telling you", remarked Sharp.
Hearing that Phana looked at Arthit going away and his mood soured. There was a dull ache in his chest. But he refused to think about it.
"Phana, come let's go to that coffee place", said San looking at him.
"I will join you guys too", said Thada excitedly"
"Some other day Thada", with that, she went away with Phana
Thada pouted, but was consoled by Sharp," Don't worry friend, we'll go eat ice cream."
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Now tell me everything", San said as soon as they sat inside the coffee shop.
"Tell you what?"
"About you and Arthit. What's going on between you two?"
Phana looked away," nothing"
San huffed, " don't lie to me. I know you have known each from before the college"
Phana looked back," did Arthit tell you?"
"No, but I have eyes and sixth sense. Now tell me everything"
Phana sighed, then started," we have know each other since high school. We fought that time and I beat him up pretty badly"
" Because of a girl I assume?"
"Yes"
"But that was long ago. Couldn't you be friends now?"
" He and I can never be friends"
Their coffee arrived. San took a sip, then continued with the interrogation,
" But right now, it's not about that, I assume"
Phana choked on his coffee. Just how sharp this girl is? How can she tell?
San waited patiently and quirked her eyebrow to continue.
Phana put down his coffee and contemplated whether he should tell or not. But if he didn't, she would bug him about it. Sure he could lie, but being the sharp girl she is, she will somehow deduce it.
He looked around the cafe, trying to find the answer, but finally sighed in resignation and answered,
"We accidentally kissed"
"Oh!!", Her reaction was a little mild for this revelation. She smiled a little, unseen by Phana and continued,
" How do you feel about it?"
Phana thought, as if finding the answer himself. After a long moment, he finally answered,
" I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it either. And..and..."
"And?"
"Ever since that incident, everytime I see Arthit, that kiss is replayed in my mind", answered Phana honestly and rubbed his face.
San on the other hand, looked a little surprised, and took a sip of her coffee to hide her smile.
"I see"
Phana looked at her helplessly. As if asking her to help him. Because he couldn't see at all what was happening to him. And it was driving him crazy.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Arthit reached home after watching a movie with Lemon. And he had started believing his friends words.
He admits he had a good time. Lemon was a nice girl and she was fun to be with. And she had nothing going against her.
It's just that, he doesn't get those romantic feelings towards her.
She was a bit aggressive but was considerate too, unlike someone, Arthit huffed.
He couldn't believe that that devil said those words to him. Anyway, who wants to be with him. He can hangout with his friends when that devil is not there.
He immediately regretted thinking about him cause it soured his mood for the whole night.
He freshened up and laid on his bed, Phana's words repeating on his mind.
Tiredly he rubbed his face, not again. How long will it haunt him.
Just then he received a text from San,
Got to know about your school history from Phana. But that was long time ago. Why can't you two be friends?
He read the text and thought how sweet San is. Still trying to reconcile them. He was grateful for that really. But he needed to tell her the truth. He typed a reply and sent it to her
He and I can never be friends.
