Nesta's POV

I heard a crash outside my room and immediately began to worry - maybe Elain had gotten hurt...?

I opened my door and stepped outside - and walked right into Cassian.

He was grinning from ear to ear, clutching a fistful of pens.

I turned on my heel and stomped back into my room, banging the door closed.

I could tell he was drunk. I could smell it on him.

I sat on my bed and picked up a book from my bedside table - another gift from Feyre, who had been desperate for me to communicate with them all.

But Rhys and the rest of them only felt responsible for me because I was their high lady's sister.

They pitied me - therefore I refused to even acknowledge them.

I didn't need to deal with their inner circle shit either! Especially when I didn't belong.

There was a knock at the door - Cassian - which I chose to ignore.

Instead I glanced out of the window to my left and let out a startled gasp of surprise when I spotted Azriel and Elain lounging on the sofa beds in the garden. The flowers blossomed around Elain and seemed to have an unearthly glow that made them shimmer in the light. The rose bushes, with all their thorny stems, seemed welcoming - or at least kind - unlike the ones at ho- I mean, in the mortal lands over the wall.

It never got easier when remembering that I could no longer go home because I was no longer human - It pained me that I would never be able to see my friends, live in our family home or even act normal again because I wasn't human. I was fae.

Azriel moved closer to Elain, whispering something in her ear and her answering laugh echoed through the gardens.  Elain's face practically glowed with happiness and I immediately felt guilty for acting like a bitch... But I wasn't to blame.

The person who was to blame was that bastard standing outside my room - still knocking.

"Nesssieee!! Let meeee innn!!" I frowned at his new nickname for me and opened my mouth to shout a retort but suddenly closed it, fearing it would only make him more persistent. If I kept quiet, perhaps he would leave quicker.

The repetitive knocking was like the point of a dagger pressing against my temple and I tried so hard not to scream and strike out at something.

"Nessssssieeeee!!!! Opppppen uuuup!!" I sighed inwardly and grabbed the baseball bat that I hid under my bed - he was so going to die!

I swung the door open, almost - ALMOST!! - ripping it off its hinges to glare at Cassian but was immediately distracted when Cassian's hand swiped against my nose.

I yelped in distaste and jumped back, rubbing my nose with the back of my hand.

"What did you do?!" He continued to grin, hiding the object quick enough for me to not see and I let out a frustrated groan, stomping to my dresser. Cassian followed me.

"Nessieeee!! That isn't vewwy ladylike! I just wanted to show you how important you are to me!!" Cassian's arm looped around my waist and he spun me around, swiping at my nose once again. I shouted and punched his chest, pushing him away and turned back to the mirror to see yellow streaks across my nose.

"Cassssssssiaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!" I shrieked and turned back to where he stood but he was no longer there.

I groaned inwardly and grabbed some black permanent markers from my drawer - this was a war he would not win.
