I've never been very superstitious. I mean, I don't walk under ladders, but not because I think it's bad luck, but because I'm scared they'll fall on top of me. I've always believed in science, and I still don't completely understand how one penguin could be so smart. I always thought the Penguins from 'Madagascar' were just made up, but maybe they were inspired by real-life events. So anyway, one day something so weird happened, it made me doubt everything I ever believed in. It all started one normal morning...
I was sitting at the breakfast table and eating an apple. My parents were sitting across from me, and I was thinking about when they would finally let me drink coffee, too. That's when I thought I saw something outside the kitchen window. It might have been a flash of light,or it might have been something completely different. Either way, I decided to investigate. I stood up and said,
"Bye Mom! Bye Dad!"
I was out the door before they could even think about asking why I was suddenly in such a hurry. I ran out into our yard. There was something odd going on with the grass. For no apparent reason, there was a circular patch that was flattened. I started to walk towards it, but then I suddenly couldn't go any further. It felt like I had just run into a wall of metal. I jumped back, my heart beating so loudly I was sure my parents could hear it inside. I cautiously touched the wall again. I didn't really feel like an invisible barrier, it felt more like something invisible and big was there. That would definitely explain the weird patch of grass. I was just thinking about running inside and getting some paint, when suddenly... it wasn't invisible anymore. I saw it. It was right in front of me. It looked a little like some sort of weird spaceship. I was staring at it in awe when suddenly a door I hadn't noticed before opened. The door was so we;; modem. There was no way anyone could find it unless they knew it was there. I waited excitedly. I was even prepared to be late to school for this, something I had never done before. Unless you count the penguin incident, but I don't think that should count because the police officer gave me the piece of paper that meant I wouldn't get into trouble, remember? Anyway, I waited about ten minutes until something happened. This sort of regal music came on, and very slowly, something came out. I gasped. Do you know what walked out of that spaceship? Of course you don't, that's why I'm telling you. It was a squirrel in a cape and a crown on its head.
I stared at it. My mind was going crazy. What was the squirrel doing here? What did it want? Did it want to take over the earth? If it did, I had to stop it. I tried to look confident, but I probably just looked scared as hell. Suddenly, the squirrel was standing in front of me. Behind it, there were two other squirrels holding the cape of what I guessed was the king. He looked at me. This went on for a while. I can't tell you exactly how long, because I totally lost my sense of time. After what felt like a hundred years, the squirrel king finally said something. But I can't tell you what, because it was in a completely different language. Its voice was so high and squeaky, I almost laughed. But then I thought better of it. So I said,
"Um... excuse me?"
The king looked at me for a second. Then he quickly said something to one of his servants. The servant gave him another crown that looked exactly like the old one, except that it was a little smaller. He looked at me and said in perfect English,
"I am the king of the Planet of Squirrels. We come in peace. All we want is for our relatives, the squirrels on your planet, to come home. Do you find this acceptable?"
