Hi. My name is Lucy, and I'm a mouse. I really like my life as a mouse. I live with my dad and daddy in the walls of a human family's house. The humans are called the Browns. There are four of them: Mr. Brown, Mrs. Brown, Peter Brown, and Lily Brown. Peter Brown and Lily Brown are the kids, and Mr. and Mrs. Brown are the parents. Sometimes Lily and Peter do bad things, and then Mr. and Mrs. Brown get mad at them and send them to their rooms. I always thought that was a little unfair, because in their rooms they have a bunch of cool toys and things, so it isn't much of a punishment. When I get into trouble, I have to sit in the corner for a while. Dad and Daddy can't send me to my room because our house only consists of one room.
Anyway, I'm going to tell you the story of how we celebrated New Year's Eve this year. We always invite our neighbors, our neighbors from the last house we lived in, and my Uncle Larry and my Aunt Susanna. We also in it my Grandpa, but he never bothers to show up. So this year we were gonna do the same thing as every year, but there was one problem: No one had sent the invitations. Dad said he told Daddy to send them, and he said that he had thought that he said that he had sent them. Dad said that if Daddy would just listen properly once in a while, we wouldn't be in this mess, and Daddy replied that if Dad didn't speak clearly enough to, it wasn't his fault. And I was just standing there, thinking of how when Mr. and Mrs. Brown get into a fight, Lily and Peter always go to their rooms. But, as I mentioned before, I didn't have that option.
When they were done shouting at each other, Dad said that there was nothing we could do about it now and that we should just celebrate without the guests. That's when Daddy realized he had left dinner in the oven while he was busy fighting with Dad. So of course now it was completely burned. That was the cue for them to start fighting again. While they were fighting, I realized it was time for the fireworks, so I just went out and watched them alone. Dad and Daddy didn't notice me. But I didn't mind. I was just glad to have my first peaceful moment all evening.
