Sunday goes as according to plan. I go to work, train, study and go on Netflix for a half hour. When I wake up at 6:30 on Monday I get up and take my shower. After my shower I brush my teeth. I then go to my closet to pick out an outfit. I check the weather so that I know what to wear. My iPhone is telling me that it’s going to be 63 degrees Fahrenheit today. Thats okay since it’s the middle of October. I decide on a pair of dark wash skinny jeans from American Eagle and a grey muscle tank that says DON’T on it inside of an octagon so that it’s kind of like a stop sign. I pair that with a black hoodie and my grey converse.
I then go downstairs and see that there is breakfast waiting for me on the counter with a note from my mom and dad. It says:
Dear Sophie,
Congratulations on your soccer game, we are very proud of you. We are sorry that we couldn’t be there but with me (mom) being a professor and your dad being an architect we don’t have much spare time. We are sorry for that. We wish we could be around more often and we are going to try our very best to come to your championship game.
We Love You,
Mom and Dad
I get one of these notes every so often after I’ve accomplished something. It isn’t like my parents are workaholics. We go on vacations during the breaks and summer but I still don’t get to talk to them for hours a day because all of us are so busy. Me with school and them with their careers. We all wish we could just talk more.
I see that my parents left me a very delicious breakfast. Both of my parents are decent cooks so they usually split up the work while cooking. Today they left me pancakes and bacon. My mom probably made the pancakes and my dad probably made the bacon, That’s how they usually divide it up. I go over to the fridge, take out the orange juice and eat my breakfast. By the time I’m done it’s around 7:15 so I get into my car and drive to school. I get there at 7:30. Classes don’t start until 7:45. I walk into the school and see Declan by himself.
I walk over to him and say, “Hey loner, what are you up to?”
He looks at me, startled and then he says, “Nothing I’m just waiting to get my schedule and locker combo.”
“Oh, maybe we’ll have classes together,” I say.
“Hopefully,” he says while giving me an adorable smile.
“Are you nervous about your first day?” I ask.
“Am I nervous?” he repeats pretending to think about it. “Nervous? No. Excited? Yes.”
“Excited?” I say surprised by his answer, “That’s a first. Why excited?”
“Well, after the first day comes the second day and then the third day and so on and after all of those days it will finally be over and I will be in college,” he says.
I raise my eyebrows and say “College? Where do you plan on going?”
“I plan on going to Notre Dame,” he says. “My brother went there and he loved it and its a pretty good school so why not? Plus, it is only half an hour away from my old house in Indiana.”
“I plan on going there too,” I say surprised because none of my friends plan on going there.
“Really,” he says sounding just as surprised as I am.
“Yeah, it’s been my dream since I was little,” I say excitedly.
He is about to say something but the secretary walks over to him and hands him his schedule and his locker number and combo. She says, “Sweetie, can you show him to his locker?”
