The breadsticks are gone in ten minutes. He ends up taking me to the middle of nowhere, the woods. Ever since I found Devin in the woods I’ve been deathly afraid of going anywhere near the woods.

“No,” I say.

“No what?” Declan says, confused.

“Not the woods. Anywhere but the woods,” I say.

“What’s wrong with the woods? Peaceful, away from  people and beautiful.”

“Peaceful?” I laugh bitterly, “There is nothing peaceful about the woods. People die here. Away from everyone, without anyone to find them until they search.”

“What are you talking about?” Declan asks sounding bewildered. “You aren’t going to get killed. I’ll protect you.”

“It’s not always because someone kills someone else,” I say.

“What do you mean? Suicide?”

“Just forget I said anything,” I say with no hint of emotion in my voice.

“Look, you’re obviously bothered by the woods so how about we just stay in the car,” he suggests. “That or you have to tell me why you’re so scared.”

If I tell him about the woods then I have to tell him everything about Devin and anything attached to it since one piece of information just leads to more questions. I’m not ready for that so I just silently nod my head in agreement.

“So what are we doing anyways?” I ask softly.

“Operation Live a Little,” he says.

“What about it? Why couldn’t we just have done this at my house or through text?”

“Because this is much more fun.”

“For who?” I ask.

“I was hoping for both of us but I was obviously mistaken,” he says.

“Obviously.”

“Okay, so what do you want to do?” he asks. I find this question incredibly stupid because I thought that he was supposed to tell me what we are doing here.

“What do you mean?” I ask, bewildered at his question. “I thought that you had a plan!”

“I do have a plan,” he states calmly.

“Then why are you asking me?” This is beyond confusing.

“Well, it is your life and you deserve to enjoy, and do what you want with it,” he states calmly. What the hell is he talking about? Why does he sound so calm and sure of himself? He just continues to stare at me calmly.

Now I get it! He’s just messing with me.

“Stop messing with me,” I say in between laughs.

“It took long enough for you to figure it out,” he says while laughing.

“Crap, I can’t believe I didn’t get it until now. Usually I’m the one messing with people and trying to confuse them just for a good laugh,” I say.

“Oh yeah?” he says while smirking.

“Yeah,” I say.

“How do you do it?”

“Do what?” I ask trying to act confused. This is my trick. I just act confused when someone asks me a simple question. You just keep on asking questions after they something. So if someone asked where the apples are I would just ask them what apples are and it would continue with me asking stupid questions until they got fed up or figured it out. They usually get fed up.
