Being rushed out of the house Kai grabs his keys and closes the front door. "Aren't you going to tell your parents we're leaving?" I ask.
"I already told them at the breakfast table," he says with no hesitation and pulls me along the street happily humming to himself. Gathering my things in my hands I stumbling along with him.
As we walk he halts in the middle of the sidewalk in front of a cafe. Customers walk out the door with a smile and a to-go cup in their hand. Grabbing the flung open door he makes way"Ladies first" he says politely. While walking in I thank him. The scent of coffee fills my lungs and gives me nostalgic memories. Settling down on a big red lounging chair I put my phone and wallet on the small coffee table with the menu. Making his way to the other red chair he asks if this place reminds me of something. "No, not really", I replied confused, looking through the menu.
"Really?Nothing?"
"No? Why are you asking?"
"Its the same cafe we went to after Seoul Fashion Week"
"OHHHHHH, yeah I was really tired after walking around all day, you know how I get. Plus it seems they have remodeled it too."
"True... bu-" Before he could finish his sentence the waiter arrives. Tall and slender with dark brown hair he asks if we are ready to order. Unsure, I ask "What the most popular drink you have?"
"BlackBerry Boba tea," he says in a kind tone.
"I'll have that with a lemon pastry, thank you."
The waiter slowly turns to Kai with his eyes locked with mine, he asks what Kai would like. "Mango Boba tea and blueberry muffin," Kai says coldly staring him down. The waiter takes the menus and walks back behind the counter preparing our order taking glances at me every so often.
"Why were you being so rude?" I ask Kai.
"He was looking at you the wrong way!" he whisper screams at me defensively.
"Hey! There's no need for you to yell " I retort.
"Sorry, he just made me mad..."
"Ight its cool let's not start our day on the wrong foot-" Before I could finish my sentence the waiter returns with our order. Looking down at the wooden tray it had the original order but there was a slice of white cake topped with a sliced strawberry on the whipped cream icing. "Um, I think you got the wrong table?" I say.
"No, the cake is on the house," he says while giving me a wink before leaving. I pass Kai's drink and carefully hand him the muffin. "What was that all about?" I say to Kai referring to cake. His face turns serious as grabs the tea and clenches the plastic cup till his knuckles turn white. Sipping from my drink, humming at the taste of the blackberry boba pearls at the bottom.
"How do you think you did on the last exam?" I ask.
"What?The Math test?"
"Yeah, you seemed troubled looking at those questions," I say chuckling.
" I don't even wanna talk about it, I still haven't told Ma and Pa...", he says frowning.
" How bad did you score?"
"Guess"
"60%? 45%?"
"Worse..."
"Just tell me already!"
"38%," He says full of disappointment. My jaw hangs open full of shock. I mean I know Kai isn't the best in math but I didn't think he would ever score below 50%. That's the lowest he's ever gone! Well, that's changed now. " What did you score?", he asked curiously.
