Miss Midnight didn't act like a cat at all. She didn't eat her food, she picked it up with her mouth and carried it to the front door where she put it in a straight line in front of it. She hated water, more than other cats, if there was water in a room she wouldn't come in. The Goldmans took the water bowl and threw it away. They only had water in the kitchen and bathroom, and never brought it elsewhere. In her free time Miss Midnight sat on the windowsill watching the cars drive by. One day Petra woke up to a strange sound, silence. They lived in a big city and normally there was always some background noise, cars driving, people chatting, windows and doors opening and closing. But she heard nothing! She went downstairs to see that her three children were watching tv. And her husband, Arthur was making pancakes. None of them seemed to notice anything out of the ordinary. She went to Sasha, Philip and Shelly and asked: 'Have you all brushed your teeth?' 'Yes' said Philip who was the oldest. The three of them didn't seem to want to talk. Petra went to the bathroom as Arthur finished his dough and started frying the pancakes.
