It has been a week and they haven't contacted me again.
Rowen and I have been bouncing between Jay's and Will's, depending on their work hours. Most of the time we went to the station with Jay, or had a cop with us at all times.
It's Saturday and Jay said he wanted to take me somewhere, so Will took Rowen for a boys day.
Jay said he wanted to teach me how to fight. We went to some random place in the middle of nowhere. There was a few other workout machines and equipment in it but Jay said we were only focusing on the punching bag today, and we were the only ones here.
We were fighting of a while. I was dripping sweat, but it was a blast. Jay taught me some basic maneuvers to get out of a grasp of someone, a couple of ways to punch. The way to disarm someone, and some boxing tips with the punching bag. I knew how to fight, I taught myself a little bit here and there within the past two years. Just enough to fend off one person. This was a big help to what I already picked up on. We were almost done when the air got thick. "Wow I must really be out of shape because it's really hard to breath." I laughed taking a drink from my water bottle.
Jay stopped dead in his tracks "It's not because you're unfit." unease set in my stomach.
"Then what?" I asked.
Jay ran to the door. Locked. He shouldered it, kicked it, it didn't even budge. "Locked from the outside. Something is against the door." There was only one window and it was up high.
"Jay what's going on?"
"Fire. There's a fire."
Fear spiked through me.
"They found me."
"I would say yeah, but it's okay well get out of here."
The smoke got thicker and it became almost impossible to breathe.
I coughed and coughed hitting the ground. I pulled off my t-shirt and soaked it in water and crawled over to Jay. "Put this over your mouth. It's a filter. At least for now."
Jay took it but then stopped. "Where's yours?"
"I only had one shirt." I said sarcastically, I don't wear two shirts, who does?
Jay ripped my shirt in two.
"There, now we both have one."
I grabbed it and placed it over my mouth and nose. I guess TV does come in handy.
Jay and I tried everything to get us out of here but we were failing. It was getting hard to see him. The smoke was getting too thick.
My limbs started to become heavy. I couldn't hold myself up right any longer, and I fell, my hand coming off my mouth.
Jay was over to me. Pulling me over to him. "You have to put this on your face." He held the not-so-wet half t-shirt against my face.
"Can't. Too tired."
"Stay awake."
I wanted to stay awake, I wanted to fight for Jay. I didn't want him to die, hell I didn't want to die, but with every breath of smoke I inhaled, everything became a little bit harder.
The shirt I held against my nose was dry a long time ago.
Darkness filled the room, my vision, my lungs, my being.
"I'm sorry Jay."
Blackness.
