I am happy to say that Boo is turning out to be a wonderful only dog. Dad keeps insisting that we don't need two dogs! I still think that we would be fine with two, but that won't happen unless I move out of the house. After the Death of Champ I began to try and figure out what I could do with Boo to make him more than just a pet. This could include agility, therapy dog work, rally, among other things.
He surprised us when I took him down to Bonnie's for an Agility show and Go. Boo actually was wanting to do agility with me. It was as if Champ had some how told him it was his turn to do Agility. We found out about another type of agility program. This program is called CPE. It stands for Canine Performance Events. It consists of the Standard agility courses as well as different games using the agility equipment.
This program also allows older dogs the chance to jump lower heights. This is called veterans. They also have a thing called specialist where the dog can jump two jump heights down. In Boo's case he would normally jump 16 inches , I am putting him in the specialist class so that he can jump 8 inches. He has his first trial on Saturday June 30,2018. I can't wait to see how we do. He will be doing some of the games of CPE.
Saturday June 30,2018 comes we wake up early and head to Sanford North Carolina. We get there around 7:45 and have Boo measured for his jump height. When we finally get set to go we wait for our turn in the ring. We were one of the last to run in the 8 inch class.
Finally it was our turn in the ring. I started Boo on one of the three start jumps and we were ready to start our turn. I took Boo's leash off and he starred walking towards the second jump. I called him back over. We start our run. That darn dog turned and went over the second jump instead of the first one that I had placed him at.
He then did a back jump over the same jump and finally caught up to me. We continued the course and at the half way mark , some how started moving faster. We came to the Tunnel and then the A-frame. We jump over the panel jump and head towards the tablet to finish our run.
Just as we started inching our way to the table the buzzer goes off. We hit the table ending our run and headed to get our leash. I was amazed at how well our run felt. I go put Boo up in his crate and watched the rest of the runs for the game that we had entered.
When the time came that the scores were posted for places I walked over and found our name. We won First Place! I went to the ribbons table and picked up a first place ribbon and a qualify ribbon. I ran down to where my parents were sitting, shouting we got first place! I scared my mom when I shouted. I brought the ribbons down to show them and took a picture of the ribbons.
We stayed for the rest of the show. I helped in the ring as ring crew setting up jumps to the next height and putting them back up if they were knocked by a dog. The final class I was leash runner and score runner. I would take the leash from the start to the finish and then pick up the score card to the place that they needed to go. What a day we had! It was fun and exciting! We got pictures with the judge, Boo, and I.
We headed home but right before we headed to Sonics for supper. We were at the agility trial from 7:45 to 6:30. We go some ice for Boo and food and drinks for us. I got the largest drink I could get. When we got home I call friends and family telling them about Boo and I. I also posted on Facebook the pictures and video. I posted our video on YouTube so that people can watch our run as well.
I called the breeder and told her. She told me that she had seen my post on Facebook. She also told me congratulations on our win!
Things have calmed down since that day. Our next big trial won't be until December, but we will still need to train! There will be at least one more show and go between now and then. I am planning on doing more than one event in the next Agility trial.
The hardest part is deciding what events to put Boo in. He does well with Jumps (single, double, and Triple), Tunnels, A-Frame, and Table. He struggles with Teeter, weaves, and Dog walk. This can be a problem because they can have a dog walks in any type of agility course. There is only one type of course that does not have the dog walk in it. The name of the course is Jumpers. This course has two types of obstacles, Jumps and Tunnels.
Boo and I had another agility trial in December when we won two first place ribbons as well as two qualifying ribbons. He as received a special ribbon for a Title. He passed Lv 1 in the Jumpers and Full House. He also passed lv 1 on Colors.
Colors is an event that has two different courses set up one in one color the other in a different color. Boo and I started the course and the first two obstacles were the same for either course. Boo started before I was fully ready, but luckily I was able to catch up to him quickly. Then it got trickier. We could either go to a tunnel and then a jump or a jump then a tunnel. Boo decided to go through the tunnel first.
We did well and finished the course. The last two obstacles where jumps. A double jump and a single bar jump. We won first place and a qualify ribbon.
