point of view: you

Our, being hank's and my, new partner seemed to be very good at making situations awkward, for being one of cyberlife's more advanced androids. i find it funny the way he pesters hank with so many questions. hank, of course, finds it incredibly annoying and i can't help but feel a little bad for the both of them, and their relationship so far. it was only when the android moved his focus to me, did i get uncomfortable.

"so, detective manfred-" i quickly cut him off.

"please, call me [y/n]," i insisted once again.

hesitantly, "[y/n]. i noticed that you have a dog as well. i like dogs. lieutenant anderson tells me his dog's name is sumo. what is your dog's name?"

this time, it's me who's hesitant. hank notices me squirm and let's out a loud chuckle. "trust me, you don't want to know." i shoot a glare his way and he puts his hands up in surrender.

"there's nothing wrong with her name. in fact, i think it's a perfectly dignified name." my walls of defense are up and they aren't coming down, nobody makes fun of my terrible naming skills. my fists are up as well and i'm ready to fight, in a half-joking manner. hank only laughs at me, probably due to the fact that i am much smaller than he is and also a pacifist.

"listen kid," my clenched hands loosen at the rare sign of endearment. "i would gladly get in a fist fight with you in the middle of the office, if only to get out of this god-forsaken job, but we have a ton of work to do. now, i'm sorry for constantly insulting your dog's stupid name. forgive me?" he looks genuine and i decide to drop the drama queen act. i can't quite hold a grudge against him today, because of the kindness he showed me last night.

hank and i had made a promise to help each other through today, and probably for a lot longer.

"her name is pretty stupid," i mumble. "i just thought it would be funny!" hank grins at me and returns the nudge from earlier. it's become quite rare to see him happy, and i have made it my personal duty to make him smile at least once a day. i smile back at him and i wonder if he feels the same sense of duty with me. my gaze wanders to the android in front of us.

during our small "fight," the android called connor had resumed scanning the deviant files. without looking up, he speaks to the both of us, "it seems the two of you have deviated quite far from the task at hand. we should all resume to our work." hank and i had only been preoccupied for a couple of minutes, but to connor it must have seemed like a drastic waste of time.

"now listen here, asshat," hank starts to get up before i can cut in. hank already knew that we should get to work, but he won't let anyone else tell him what to do.

"hank, he's right. we've discussed our dog's many times before, and we will continue discussing them in the future, but we are at work. we wouldn't want connor to give us a bad review on yelp, now would we?"

"kid, do you even know what yelp is?" we are about to get into another dispute when connor raises his head and looks directly at the two of us. immediately, i get to work. hank groans and rolls his eyes, and then starts flipping through the documented cases.

when connor finishes scanning the documents, and getting as much information as he can, he looks to the two of us in a way i don't quite understand. hank doesn't notice, or he just doesn't care, but my eyebrow quirks up. i turn my eyes, from the paperwork in front of me, and look into his. his eyes are a deep brown and they hold a sort of warmth in them. i know that androids were made to look and act as human as possible, but the imitation of emotions in them always surprises me.

his gaze seems to flicker in and out of sympathy, but i know that is impossible. as soon as it came, the look passes.

"may i help you?" i whisper to him, glancing at hank. i know that hank hates loud noises while he's working, which is why i came up with our post-it-note exchange. connor, on the other hand, does not know this about our partner.

in his booming voice, he says, "there is no need for you to whisper, detective manfred." a few heads turn our way and i can see hank clench his fist against his leg, under the desk. i look between both of them, eyes widening more every second. in the quiet office, the android's lack of volume perception made it seem like he was shouting. anxiously, i hush him, but he completely ignores it.

"we are getting nowhere with this case and-" before connor can finish his loud statement, hank jumps out of his seat and pins him to a wall. i quickly jump out of my chair as well, trying hard to diffuse the situation before someone gets hurt.

hank has his arm across connor's throat, and i am trying to pull them off each other. hank is just about to push me away when an officer walks up to the three of us.

"sorry to disturb you, lieutenant. we've just received information on the ax400 that attacked a man last night. it's been seen in the ravendale district." i silently thanked the officer for his perfect timing.

"we'll be there right away," i interjected before hank or connor could respond. the officer looked me directly in the eyes, softened his gaze, nodded his head and walked away, before i turned back to face my partners. "oh, would you get off him?" i pulled hank away from the android, putting a barrier between them. connor brushes himself off and hank just shrugs his shoulders.

"c'mon, ladies. we've got a job to do." hank's lighthearted mood from earlier today was all gone. i look back, to make sure connor is okay, before catching up to hank.

i now realize that captain fowler's warning was not to be taken lightly. it might be harder than i originally thought to keep them from shooting each other.
