Moments later - well, it felt like moments anyway - Vicky sat in the carriage with her fellow Slytherins. The Slytherin gang - that was what they called themselves anyway - included Draco himself, Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Pansy Parkinson, Daphne Greengrass, Millicent Bulstrode, Theodore Nott and Blaise Zabini, had joined Vicky and Nat in their carriage after riding in the same compartment as them. And by now, Vicky and Nat had been welcomed into the gang - even though Nat didn't understand why Vicky so suddenly wanted to hang around with their fellow Slytherins. However, Nat didn't complain - she had a thing for Blaise anyway, and Vicky knew it. Vicky didn't like it, nor did she understand it, but she accepted it - the only thing she wanted was for her best friend to be happy.
Vicky and Nat was sat next to each other, as always - they had been inseparable since day one. Draco sat across from Vicky, staring at her with gleaming eyes, as Pansy pulled at his arm and whined. Millicent, Crabbe and Goyle had a hard time fitting into the carriage, as Blaise, Theodore and Daphne needed some space too - and they saw the look they got from Vicky every time one of the three last mentioned had a hard time fitting in on the benches because of them. Gladly, they had found one of the bigger carriages, it would have been much worse if they had one of the normal ones.
"So, Victoria," said Pansy, finally giving up on getting Draco's attention. Everyone shut up when they heard Vicky's name being mentioned, and everyone turned towards Pansy. "How was your summer?"
"Well, how would you like spending the summer with loads of blood-traitors?" said Vicky, crossing her arms over her blouse and gray jumper, her fingers going against the gleaming prefect badge on her chest.
The other Slytherins laughed, simply thinking that Vicky had finally turned out as one of them. But it didn't slip by Nat as easily. Nat had known Vicky for five years, she knew everything about her brown-haired best friend. Nat knew Vicky inside and out, all of her secrets, all of her fears, all of her moods, all of her qualities - good and bad. And now, when Nat heard Vicky utter the word 'blood-traitor', she knew something was wrong. And she got more and more sure as she saw the pain Vicky tried so desperately to hide in her chocolate-brown eyes. Nat made a mental note to ask Vicky about it later - and if she didn't get any answers out of her best friend, she would have to turn to the rest of the Weasleys and the Golden Trio, the ones who had spent their summer with her.
"Oh, what a catastrophe that must've been," laughed Daphne, leaning against a giggling Pansy. "I've never been so unlucky to even have to talk to a blood-traitor. I can't even imagine what it must be like to spend the entire summer with them."
Vicky forced herself to laugh along with the other Slytherins. Nat only found the situation getting weirder and weirder. She never thought that Vicky would so much as smirk at such a joke - she had always defended Muggles, Muggle-borns and blood-traitors. Especially inside the Slytherin common room, where such comments were heard multiple times a day.
"So, Victoria -"
"Call me Vicky."
"- what did you do the entire summer? I can't imagine that you spent any time with your siblings, you loathe each other."
Vicky felt a lump forming in her throat, at the comment about her siblings. She could see Pansy smirk a little, feeling proud of the comment she had given. She wanted to make sure Vicky felt it, felt it real deep in her heart, just like she felt it when Draco put all his attention at Vicky, and none at her. Vicky shook it off, all of the emotion disappearing from her face as her warm, brown eyes met Pansy's cold ones.
"I didn't," replied Vicky, her voice turning cold. "Why would you even say such a thing? Since when do I spend time with my siblings, huh? Why would that change over the summer?"
