Niall's eyes narrowed and his knuckles turned the colour of the clouds. Rose didn't understand why Niall seemed so frustrated, or why he wasn't answering her question. She hadn't said something wrong, had she?

Niall was the only one who treated her normally; had he finally realised how messed up she was? She didn't want to lose him too.

Great, Rose, you had to make Niall hate you, too. Can't you just be normal? Why do you have to be nosy and rude, no wonder people dislike you.

Niall, on the other hand, was terrified he'd already lost the only friend he'd had. If she knew he was famous, it would be over. Everyone treated famous people differently.

"I-I'm sorry if I said something, I just figured..." Rose stammered.

She trailed off, not knowing how to resolve the issue. Why was he angry?Rose chewed on her lip.

Sparse tears rolled across Rose's red cheeks, as she faced the window to make sure Niall couldn't see her. She didn't want him to know how much he'd affected her, she didn't want him to pride himself with making her feel like this alone. It was the entirety of her past that crushed her when Niall, too, had realised how worthless she was.

Her heart began to thump in her chest and she was almost certain Niall would notice her increased pulse. His presence suddenly became overbearing, and Rose felt as if oxygen had been restricted from her lungs. She had to get away.

"Sorry, can I just get out to go to the bathroom?"

After ignoring Rose for the span of at least five minutes, Niall's vision returned to her. Despite her best attempts of hiding her tears, Niall noticed them, and immediately his tough exterior softened.

"Rose, why're you crying?"

The tears muffled her voice, and even if she had wanted to tell Niall anything, she couldn't.

Niall quickly found the napkins he'd grabbed in the concessions cart and wiped the tears from her cheeks.

"Are you okay?"

Rose found it difficult to respond, Niall's eyes not leaving her face. Concern was etched in his features, and she was confused as to why. Sure, they'd talked for few hours, but they weren't friends, much less did they care about each other. In three hours, they'd get off the train and never see each other again. There was no point in caring.

He enveloped her in a huge hug, her tears staining his shirt and the scent of salt and cologne engulfing her.

He didn't let go until her tears stopped.
