"No, I totally won that round!"
Niall shook his head, Rose not bothering to suppress her innocent laughter.
"As if, Niall!" She almost yelled. "You know I guessed it first!"
They'd decided to take up a game of guessing songs, since music seemed to be the only thing they had in common.
Niall was counting the hours until he'd leave Rose. He didn't want to go, he wanted to spend more than two hours and thirty-seven minutes and fifty-six seconds with Rose, but unfortunately he couldn't. After they got off this sanctuary of a dingy train cart, he'd have to leave her, if not for the fame, because he didn't deserve her. Niall didn't want to weigh her down, weigh down the bird he saw take flight whenever Rose spoke. She was beautiful; free from the judgement of the tabloids, fans, world. He wouldn't be the one to cage her up with him, he wasn't that selfish.
"Whatever Rosalie, that's six points for you and four for me."
"I win!"
Niall laughed at her, as she threw her hands up in the air and titled her head back in victory.
"Alright, let's play another game." Niall said.
"Like what? I haven't got cards-"
Niall yearned to know more about Rose. He knew the terms of the game he was asking her to play, she asks a question, he does the same. She intrigued him, and he could ask her a million things about her family or past or future. He didn't want to divulge his secret, however that was a risk he would have to take if he wanted to get closer to Rose. Honestly, he felt like he was kind of cheating Rose, because almost anything she wanted to know, she could look up online.
"Well, it's like twenty questions, but you're not allowed to ask favourite colour or animal. Only good questions."
"And nothing sexual," Rose piped.
Niall laughed and agreed. Rose nodded eagerly before pulling one leg up into the seat. Her eyes were glued to Niall, as he asked his first question.
"Do you have any siblings?"
"I believe that would count as a senseless question," They both smiled, Rose's a childish grin, while Niall couldn't seem to be any more facilitated with her. "But I have two older brothers- Elias and Julian."
Niall took a sip of his soda.
"And you?" Rose's forehead wrinkled as her eyebrows' altitude increased by a centimetre.
"I have an older brother, too. Name's Greg."
Rose nodded, the game already taking an awkward turn. She didn't quite understand the rules of the game, and was it her turn or his? She didn't know.
"Best and worst habits?" Niall spoke after a moment of a pensive blanket spread across his face.
"Best, er, I always brush my teeth thrice a day. And I always put dishes in the washer. Worst, uh, I think I think too much." Niall smiled as he remembered one of his band mates saying something similar.
"What about you?"
"I...worst-farting." Rose's eyes widened as Niall allowed a boisterous befuddlement of laughter to escape his lips. After Rose's embarrassment had shelled away, she joined him.
"And best?"
Niall thought for a moment, "Well the fans always tell me my laugh."
Niall didn't understand as Rose's eyebrows knotted together. What was wrong? And then it dawned on him: his slip-up, his demise.
"Fans?"
He didn't want to ignore her, like he'd done last time when he'd thought she found out. He could fix this.
"Uhh, I meant like my mum and dad. They're my biggest fans."
And Rose laughed. She seemed to be doing a lot of that lately. She'd probably laughed more in the past two hours, around Niall, than she had ever before.
"What, you jealous of all my fans?" Niall struck a pose, Rose's eyes crinkling as she brought a hand up and slapped him playfully.
Niall was lucky this time. He'd managed to evade revealing his true identity, but he knew he wouldn't always be so lucky.
