Chapter 6- Taking Steps

I spend my night only sitting in the bed and looking at Nessie. I didn't do anything, nor changed my position; blinking at the window and looking at the clock. Time moves so slow today. Its 4:29 in the morning and everything in the house was quiet. Maybe Rosalie, Bella and Esme was on their rooms now and try to rest for a while after a long day preparation to the wedding. I didn't expect that they have to this for me. I didn't expect that Rose can spend a day without Emmett, Esme alone in her room without Carlisle, and Bella too. I didn't know that they can do it for me and Jasper. I am so lucky that I have a family like them. A family I wanted before..

Suddenly, Nessie opened her eyes. She looked at me and she smiled as she leaned on the headboard. She quickly looks at the phone I am holding.

  "Can we call Daddy?" she asked innocently.

I smiled.

"Sure, sure. Let me dial his number." I said, looking for Edward's number in my contacts.

When I found his number, I quickly pressed the "send" button. I listened to the phone rang for a long time. When Edward answered it, I could hear the noise coming behind him.

   "Hello?" he said.

"Hello, Edward. This is Alice. How're things?" I answered.

He laughed silently.

"Everything's fine here. Don't worry. "

"But why is there a noise?"

He chuckled.

   "It was the TV's volume. Emmett is watching his favorite football team and of course, Carlisle, Jazz and I have to join him." Edward explained.

"Watching TV? Early in the morning?" I asked.

"I don't know. We are watching TV for almost an hour. Luckily that all of us can't sleep. Carlisle, Emmett and Jazz was on the sofa." he chuckled.

"Oh, great."

"Hey, do you want to talk to Jazz?"

"Nope. I called because Nessie wants to talk to you. I think your princess misses you."

"Really? Give the phone to her, please,"

I handed the phone to Nessie. As she put the phone near on her ear, I saw her smile.

   "Hello? Daddy?" she asked, smiling.

I smiled back at her.

  "Yes, daddy. I'm fine. Momma, aunt Rose and grandma Esme was on their rooms right now. I am staying on aunt Alice's room." she said, looking at me.

Nessie listened for a long time.

  "Yes, yes.. daddy, I will. I love you daddy. Please come back, 'kay?"

And she gave the phone to me. When I listened at the phone, I heard Edward's silent laughter.

  "Edward? What's wrong with you?" I asked.

"Nothing, Alice. I am just happy because I talked to Nessie." he answered.

"Ah.. well, I guess you have prepared everything before you leave there tomorrow?"

"Of course, we already finished the last fitting for the clothes."

"Ugh! You're so unfair! I haven't seen my dress. But why you guys have a chance to see?"

Edward laughed at my childish act.

   "Its customary. And a tradition. Just wait for tomorrow. I guess Rose will show it."

"Yeah, you're right."

"Oh, sorry. I have to shut this phone now. We have to hunt for today. See you tomorrow."

"Yep. Thanks. Take care, guys!"

"Sure, sure.. bye."

I pressed the "cancel" button and I put my cellphone in the table near in the bed. As I looked at Nessie, she was leaning on the pillow beside me.

   "I can't sleep now, aunt Alice." she complained.

I smiled and I brushed her hair.

"Oh.. what do you want me to do?" I asked.

She thought for a second. Then she looked at me.

   "Aunt Alice, will you tell me how you met uncle Jasper?" she asked.

I looked at her.

"But Nessie.. it was a long story. You will get bored and tired of listening it." I said.

She smiled. "No. I want to hear the story. Please?"

And I started.
