"Let us all take a moment to honor our fellow student, Kai Rose, who earlier today, died in the hospital."

The squeaky voice of the principal could be heard echoing down the empty hallways and in the many rooms of Montridge High School. Nobody was crying. Everything and everyone was silent. All the students stood quietly at the thought of someone their age leaving. Even worse, someone that nobody knew. His silence was passed onto the entire school. Nobody knew what had happened except for one group.

In the back of classroom 103, stood Kai's previous bully, Jacob. He was too shocked to even process that the boy had died. Right next door to Jacob was Kai's previous crush, who had rejected him and called him terrible names and spread rumors which fed into Kai's bullying. Damian was also speechless, but for the reason that he had fed into Kai's depression, giving him just another reason to make him feel useless to the world.

His silent friend, Max, was crying in a bathroom stall, knowing he should've done something, but had been far too terrified to. Max and Kai had exchanged small glances and simple smiles that made the two equally happy, but nothing else. Max did nothing as he watched Kai being bullied and rejected by the mass population of Montridge High. He had even stopped his silent glances and small smiles a few weeks earlier, thus throwing another reason at Kai. Another reason to do it.

His parents were sitting at home crying with Kai's older brother, Jackson, and their baby sister, Amara, who would be too young to even know who Kai was. They felt responsible. They should've known that he was unhappy, that he was so unhappy he'd do this.

The entirety of Montridge felt the death of Kai Cole Rose who, for better or worse, had changed the city in a matter of minutes.
