The second week of his journey, Jason found himself besieged by a group of Hyperborean giants.
He drew his sword and charged a giant, but it breathed on him, and he turned to find the grass behind him frozen.
So the giants could breathe ice. Wonderful. As if the February freeze wasn't bad enough. He rolled between the smallest giant's legs and stabbed him in the shin.
He waited for the giant to crumble to dust like the rogue centaur he had killed the day before. Instead, the giant froze, literally, and cracks appeared at where Jason's blade had been impaled. As Jason yanked his blade out of the ice statue, it crumbled into shards of ice. Jason was so shocked by the giant's remains that he stared at it with wide eyes, not moving, almost getting impaled in the back.
Jason was shocked back into reality when he found frost creeping up his blade. With a swing, he decapitated two other giants and beheaded another with a strong swipe.
Jason would have been glad if the last one had run away screaming for his mother, but the giant just had to come at him.
Jason was already exhausted. His arms felt like lead. His feet were about to drop off.
Jason barely managed to evade a thrust by the giant, earning a graze in his side. Just as he felt like he was definitely going to lose, an eagle swooped down from the air and scratched at the Hyperborean's eyes. After that, it indeed ran away crying "Mommy! "
After that day he found that eagles always followed him. It wasn't noticeable at first, but he always saw a small winged speck not too far away from his position. He didn't understand its meaning, of course, but he knew it was important.
Over the week, he kept udestroying monster after monster, and he realized that whenever he found himself unable to continue a fight, an eagle would dart in and slow down the monster to delay it and give Jason time to catch his breath.
So that's the end of this chapter. Hope it's okay. I just kinda wanted to describe a fight with Hyperboreans. So this chapter is a filler, I guess.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters. Blah blah blah. They belong to Rick Riordan.
