Jason stayed with Lupa and her pack for 4 months. Over the course of that, Lupa trained him in how to survive, and increasing his knowledge of Rome's history. He learned the myths of Rome by heart, memorized the names of heroes and notable rulers.

He learned how to hold a sword and to throw a spear. He learned how to identify edible plants and start fires.

He discovered that he could speak fluent Latin, and he increased his knowledge of

the English Language. By the end of his time with Lupa, he had the intelligence and maturity of a 7 year old.

"Jason, " said Lupa, padding to where Jason stood, hacking at the air. "It is time. You must begin your journey."

Jason sheathed his Imperiald Gold sword and turned to her. Lupa's eyes were solemn. "I wish I could stay here longer."

Lupa gave a sigh. "I wish you could too."

Jason looked at the floor. "So I don't get to bring anything, right?"

"Just this." Lupa said, handing him a coin.

"What is it?"

"Flip it, and depending on what side it lands on, you'll get either a javelin or a sword."

"Thank you."

"Don't thank me. It's a gift from your Olympian parent. And before you ask, I can't tell you who he is. "

There was a solemn silence.

"Do I leave now?"

"Yes, child." Lupa rested her muzzle on Jason's head. "Take care."

"How will I know the way?"

"You'll find it. Trust your instincts. Don't go looking for fights. Don't get in trouble with the police."

"I won't."

"Goodbye, Jason. I wish you luck on your journey."

"Goodbye, Lupa."

As Jason walked out to the real world on his own, Lupa felt her heart wrench. Would Jason be able to survive on his own? Would a child as young as he make it to the legion?
