Hatter's House, The Next Morning...
At 6:30, Maddie set up the training ground-- which was just their backyard, you know with the Blood Berries and all. Yeah, you get the point.
(A/N: And I thought you weren't a morning person.
Maddie: Oh shut up.)
When she was done, she went inside to have breakfast. She cooked corned beef and eggs (typical breakfast meal) for everyone. The others entered the kitchen just as Maddie was putting the food on 4 plates since the Mad Hatter left earlier for work.
"Morning." Maddie greeted as she started to put the plates on the table.
"Goodmorning, Mads." Whitney greeted, half asleep. She had slept over again since her mother had to go to yet another kingdom for 'Queen Duties and Stuff' as Maddie called it.
"Sleep well, Wit?" Maddie asked, putting the last of the plates on the table.
"As always."
"Goodmorning Madeline!" Alex greeted, already wearing his training clothes that they bought at the town yesterday.
"Call me 'Maddie', everyone calls me Maddie. Well, except for Red, calls Mason and I 'Hatter', and the teachers at school who call me 'Ms. Little Hatter' since I look a lot like my dad."
"Okay."
"This is new. You've never woken up earlier than us." Mason commented. "Is it because of our guest?" He added, wiggling his eyebrows, which earned him a flick on the forehead.
"Ow!"
"Why do you have to make me pissed so early in the morning?" Maddie asked as she started eating.
"Because of reasons."
"ShUt Up AnD eAt YoU aRsE."
"Alright, alright, just calm down."
After breakfast...
Maddie started Alex's training.
"Wonderlandians are born with special powers that they can always use once they discover what it is. Mine, for example, is the manipulation of fire. These powers prove useful in combat, but just like us can be drained of energy, if overused." Maddie started.
"What happens to the person if their power is drained?" Alex asked.
"They either become very weak and be stripped of consciousness, and powerless for weeks, or go through the state called 'Limit'. Coming from its name, it means that the person has reached his or her limit. When you reach this state in battle your body tries to adapt to the sensation and your power recharges rapidly, it's an involuntary action to keep you alive.Limit is similar to the biological term, homeostasis.
"Unfortunately, the latter is very rare. Only one was recorded in history, Richard Loughty III in 1703, 314 years ago, he helped the most in the battle against the now extinct Grey Kingdom. Though nobody knew what happened to him after the battle. It's best not to drain your power rather than end up with any of these results.
"If you do end up in a fight, powerless, the next best thing is a weapon. If you don't have a weapon, you need to know basic self-defense or hand-to-hand combat. Well, you don't have powers, and-- no offense, but I don't think you'd know one end of a dagger from the other."
"It's fine." Alex said, since it was actually true. He couldn't use a dagger even if it could save his life, which it totally could.
"Don't feel bad though, I was just like you before I started training, I'll teach you about weapons when you get the hang of self-defense. Well, the Wonderland version of it anyway."
