Jenson's POV
We sat in my car in silence. Not an uncomfortable one, I think we were both just wrapped up in our own thoughts. My eyes kept flickering over to Rochelle in the passenger seat. She looked beautiful. One of her hands was absently playing with a strand of dark hair. Her pale face was lit up as every lamp post cast light into the moving car. Her eyes were vacant and he breathing made her chest rise and fall steadily. I could have sat watching her for hours and never get bored but my eyes had to stay on the road.
The silence continued until Rochelle stirred from her thoughts. I wanted to ask her what was going through her mind but I didn't. If she wanted to talk about it she would tell me in her own time. She looked at me and smiled at me.
"Are we nearly there?" she asked, squinting out into the slowly darkening world around us.
"It's just around this corner" I said, as I turned the steering wheel and guiding the car into Sydney Drive. I drove for a little while longer until I reached my small semi-detached house. I watched Rochelle's reaction as she looked at my house. Her face looked so happy and I couldn't understand why. I walked around the car and opened her door. She got out carefully but not once took her eyes off my house. I closed the car door behind her and wrapped my arm around her shoulders.
"You okay?" I asked quietly. She looked up at me with a grin.
"I love it already" she whispered, her eyes lit up. I laughed.
"Let's see the inside then, shall we?" I said, as my arm fell from around her shoulders to take her hand in mine. We walked up the path together and I pulled my keys out of my pocket. We reached the door and I unlocked it and opened it for Rochelle. She stepped inside and kicked off her shoes and left them in the hall and wandered off. I smiled after her and closed the door behind me. I followed her into my living room to see she was already curled up on my sofa. I grinned at her.
"What's for tea then?" she asked, smiling, knowing full well I couldn't cook really. I laughed.
"Chinese?" I asked. She rolled her eyes but nodded so I took the phone from its holder on the table and called up the Chinese take away down the road. Rochelle mouthed to me what she wanted as I spoke to the man on the other end and soon some steaming hot Chinese food was on its way here. I kicked my shoes off and headed over to my leather couch where Rochelle was cuddling up to the fluffy cream cushions. She smiled as I sat down next to her and moved over to wrap her arms around my waist and rest her head on my chest. I looked down at her hands and noticed her hoodie sleeves were tightly in the grasp of her hands. I sighed, knowing that when she held them like that she was either self conscious or worrying. I hadn't wanted her to worry, that was the last thing I wanted. Why hadn't I just walked out of that classroom without telling her? I knew the answer to that even before I thought it though, I told her because I needed her. I needed her more than anything.
"When's you're operation?" she asked, fiddling with one of the pockets of my jeans.
"The 12 October" I said, feeling the gut wrenching fear run through me as I thought about it. I didn't want anyone cutting into my head but I knew I had no choice.
"That's just over a week away" she said quietly. I nodded. Not sure what to say.
"We should do something to take your mind off of it" she said, her voice sounding bright. I looked down at her.
"What do you suggest?" I said, smiling, liking this idea already.
"What did you do when you were little, the first amazing thing you did, the thing that made you forget anything else?" she asked, looking into my face expectantly. I closed my eyes and thought hard. It didn't take me long to think of a memory. I smiled at the thought of it.
"What is it?" she whispered. I opened my eyes again and smiled down at her.
"I was 8, and it was my first trip to a theme park" I said, feeling the joy from the memory.
"I remember my Dad picking me up on his shoulders, and walking straight to the candy floss store. I had never tasted it before but I remember loving it. I'd beg him for more but he would just laugh and tell me 'later'. He wanted to go on all the big rides, but I couldn't pluck up the courage to go on one until just before closing time. We went on a ride that spun us and bounced us and turned us upside down. It was fantastic. It left me breathless. I remember being absolutely amazed by it, and I swore to myself someday I'd go on it again" I said, slowly, letting the memory sink into me.
"That's what we'll do then" Rochelle said, smiling quickly before leaning up to kiss me. Her lips touched mine and I instantly responded. Her hand moved up to my neck and began to play with my hair and I shivered. I had no idea how she did this to me. Then she pulled away and I groaned. She giggled.
"It's annoying, isn't it?" she asked, smirking and I rolled my eyes at her playfully.
"When shall we go?" I asked her, thinking back to the theme park. Part of me felt like I was too old now, but the rest of me was tingling at the thought, just like my 8 year old self had been .
"Tomorrow" she said, with a grin. I looked at her, startled.
"But we have school tomorrow" I said.
"We'll call in sick" she said, jumping on to her knees in excitement. I bit my lip worried.
"What if we get caught" I asked, worried and she smiled at me.
"We won't, no one will think anything of it" she said, but I still felt, and probably looked, cautious.
"Jenson, why don't we just do something spur of the moment? It's take your mind off everything, and it'll make you feel alive, which I think is probably what you need right now" she said, and she slid her hand into mine and squeezed it. I sighed, I knew she was right so I nodded and she smiled at me.
"It's going to be amazing, I promise you that" she said, and I couldn't help but lean down and kiss her but just as my lips touched hers the doorbell rang. We both moaned in unison which set Rochelle off into a fit of giggles which were contagious. I stood up smiling and went to the door the get the Chinese.
