I am a gang leader.

Those words echo in my head before I finally realize the meaning of the words he just said. He is a gang leader.

I am not shocked or suprised or afraid. I am sure he and a reason to do such things. I mean you can't justify killing people by just saying that you are a gang leader, right?

I stare at him and wait for an explanation. I wait for two minutes or so and yet he doesn't look at me in the eye. He looks anywhere but at me.

So annoying!

"Are you going to explain or what?" I snap getting tired of the sickening silence that had take over.

Xavier seems surprised and I don't blame him. He must have expected me to run away. But everybody has their side of the story.

"You want an explanation?" he asks genuinely confused.

"Yeah, that's what I said, didn't I? Or have you gone deaf?" I ask not liking the sound of the coffee grinder. It is too loud.

"Where do you want me to start from?" he asks me.

"From the end," I reply sarcastically which causes him to roll his eyes.

"So, my father was a gang leader and so his gang got passed to me, so I became the leader," he explains not looking at me in the eye after which he scratches his neck.

Seriously! That's so wrong. That is not how he story is supposed to go. He is supposed to have a heart-wrenching secret and he does. I know he does but he doesn't want to share it. I can understand why.

It's his secret. I respect his privacy, he'll tell me when he needs too. Suddenly the atmosphere around us is thick and then out of the blue I sneeze making every damn person in that coffee shop alert.

Xavier too looks like someone will die. I snort at that. Yeah. I know, I sneeze very loudly. The whole coffee shop is silent but then Xavier, the great fellow, decides to break the silence all around us.

"Katrina, love, why are you still here?"

"Do you not want me to be here, Xavier?"

"No, why would you think so?"

"Because you said if I did or did not eat to be here. I am just asking."

"No, love, what I mean is that why rent you running away. You basically just saw me kill a man,"

"So?"

"So don't you think, that I could kill you?"

"Do you want to kill me?"

"No."

"Then you won't, Xavier." I assure him.

He never meant me any harm and never will mean me any harm. He hides himself with a mask. A mask that will eventually come out but will take some of his own skin. He is afraid to put himself out there because it is easier to fake a smile than to explain your sadness to the world.

And no one better than me can know that.

What it is like to hide the pain. My lips tremble when I speak, my eyes tell a different story and my heart sings a different song. But somehow I am content because the last thing that's want now is pity.

They only know what I want them to know.

"How did you come here?" Xavier asks me snapping me out of my thoughts.

"By car, found it in the morning," I reply and he nods in understanding.

"Do you want to go home, love?" he questions me politely.

"Yeah, but first let's eat dessert," I say ordering a sizzling brownie with a scoop of ice-cream for him and me. He chuckles at that and I forget. I forget that I have a damn cold.
