A year later...
A lot has happened, well, maybe not a lot, though. Everything has been fine. Harrison had been admitted to University of Lagos to study law and was done with his first year. Unfortunately, Helen's parents changed their minds and she was forced to go to Babcock University, a private university. Harrison was sad about it for a while but he is getting used to it.
Christopher and Leo had graduated from secondary school. Christopher had been more lively and a little nicer ever since he started his relationship with Tara. Tara and Tayo came over a lot of times after the last time to spend weekends and holidays with us. When Tara and Chris told us(Harry and I) about their relationship, it was not totally surprising. To me, though. Harrison was very surprised, mainly because Christopher got romantically involved with a girl. It was shocking. All the same, we were both happy for them.
Chris and Tara had both resumed in UI, to study Pharmacy and Psychology respectively. Nah, it wasn't planned. It was just a coincidence, the type that favoured their relationship. Tara said she had always loved UI but Chris just chose UI because he wanted to live in Ibadan. Those two.
My relationship with Leo had been going smoothly, I guess. We fight most times but we always found our way through things. Now that he had graduated, we only saw on weekends and once in a while during weekdays. He wrote the Post UTME into Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU) and he did very well. He wanted to study Mechanical Engineering and he was given the course since he met the cut off for the course. I was really happy for him when he told me he was going to study Mechanical Engineering in OAU, to get admission into federal schools in this Nigeria is hard, especially OAU, Unilag and UI. Leo is really intelligent, so it wasn't tough for him.
OAU wasn't going to resume till 4 months after the admission lists were out. Leo, who has always loved photography, decided learn more about his photography thing ever since he graduated which made him very busy. I was busy with SS3 too, preparing for my final exams and all. I had written my JAMB and glory to God, I did well. I scored 269 out of 400. I was not too happy about my score cos I studied really hard for the exam. My parents were really glad about it, though.
It is the first day in February and it is a Tuesday. I was going to start my WAEC exams in March. Teachers in my school have been really preparing us for the exams. I study a lot, nowadays. I don't have a choice. Mum and I are the only ones at home, now. Christopher resumed last month and Harrison rarely comes home except during holidays.
"Be a good girl. Study well and listen to your teachers" mum says as she stops in front of the school gate.
I roll my eyes.
"Mum, you are talking to me as if you're talking to a 6 year old girl. I will be 17 soon" I say as I move to open the door.
She holds me back. "You will always be my little 6 year old girl. Now, tell me you will be a good girl" she says. I look at her. She is smiling, brightly. She looks more beautiful than ever. Her skin was glowing. Her teeth...sparkling white. Okay, this is weird.
"Mum, c'mon. I will" I say, smiling back.
"Always?"
"Always. Mum, have a nice day. I have to hurry. It is almost assembly time and you won't want to be late for work too"
"That's right. I love you, huh. So do have a nice day." I stare at her for some seconds. "I love you too" I say and hug her.
I wave her goodbye and walk into the school.

"What's wrong?" I ask for what seems like the umpteenth time.
"Nothing" he says and lets out a laugh, a really fake one.
It's after school hours already. The teachers released SS3 students early today because of an urgent meeting with the director of the school. Dave and I are sitting in an empty classroom, hanging around till the school bus comes for the last batch aka SS3 students.
"C'mon, Dave. I've been your best friend since forever. I know when something is wrong with you. This is not you. You have been unusually quiet since morning. You haven't been teasing me. You haven't been talking about your girls sef" I say, folding my arms.
He looks at me and smiles. A genuine smile. Or is it a sad smile? I really can't say but it isn't a fake one.
"C'mon. I tell you everything too" I swat his chest, playfully.
"It's really nothing"
"No no. I am not buying that. You are acting strange and I deserve to know what is wrong"
"I don't want to bother you, okay?
"Dave, c'mon. It's okay to..."
My phone rings. Leo.
I bring it out from my bag. It is not Leo. It is Harrison. Why is he calling me? He won't even come to see me at home?
I pick the call.
"Hell..."
"What???" I scream.
*What??
