It was a nice evening in May. The sun had been out the whole day, the temperature was warm and all around, it was an amazing day. But as the sun was setting, Christine De Chagny was giving birth.
Raoul and Christine had gotten married a few days after the events under the opera house in a nice, quiet ceremony at a small chapel. After their third wedding anniversary, Christine discovered that she was pregnant with their first child. And both Christine and Raoul were thrilled.
The pregnancy went by smoothly. There was no health problems for Christine and the baby was developing perfectly. On the morning of May 15th, the day started off as every other day. But after lunch, Christine started to get some pains, but she ignored them and went on with her day. It wasn't until she felt liquid running down her legs that she yelled for Raoul. She told him that her water had broken and the baby was on it's way. Raoul lead Christine to their bedroom and helped her lay down on their bed. He then left to get the midwives and returned ten minutes later. Raoul was sent out of the room while the midwives helped Christine.
He stood outside the room, not wanting to be far away from Christine. He heard Christine in agony and he hated that he couldn't be by her side. One of the things that he hated was seeing/hearing Christine in pain. Raoul lost track of time, but he knew that hours had gone by. But soon enough, he heard the baby, their baby, cry. About ten minutes later, the midwife opened the door and told Raoul to come in. He entered the room and saw Christine happily gazing at a little bundle in her arms.
"It's a girl." Christine said softly. "Darling, we have a daughter!"
Raoul rushed to Christine's side and sat down on the bed next to her. The baby's eyes were closed and she had Christine's hair colour. She looked just like Christine.
"What's her name?"
"I thought that we could pick her name together, if you'd like."
"How about Charlotte?" Raoul suggested.
Christine smiled. "After the story that brought us together, all those years ago?"
"Yes. I'll always be the little boy who went into the sea to fetch your scarf."
Christine handed Charlotte over to Raoul, and Raoul placed a kiss on Charlotte's tiny forehead. At the sudden contact, Charlotte's eyes opened and she gazed up at her father. And at that moment, it felt peaceful around the room. There was no phantom, no distractions and no one around to ruin the happy couple's perfect moment.
Now, it was just Raoul, Christine and their Little Lotte.
