I woke up to blinding lights. I looked around me confused. There was a window. I was on a bed. I was hooked up to an IV. My eyes adjusted. I was in a hospital.
A nurse came in. “Hello Princess. How are you?”
“What’s going on?” I asked. I reached up to my neck with my hand that wasn’t hooked up to different IVs. I felt multiple layers of bandages covering my neck. I then felt the oxygen tube in my nose.
“You got attacked by an animal when you were in the woods by yourself. If it wasn’t for your boyfriend you wouldn’t be alive. Ethan you can come in now.” She smiled and left.
Ethan walked in and smiled. He sat on the edge of the bed and kissed my forehead. “How are you, Cadence?”
That’s when I remembered. No amount of drugs could keep me from remembering what happened. The vampires that attacked me and fed from me. That’s why I’m here.
I started screaming. “HELP ME!!” I reached for the nurse button on the bed and started pressing it frantically. “HELP ME!!” I kicked all around me and started crying. He was going to kill me.
He got on top of me and grabbed my head still. His eyes looked into mine. Mesmerizing. “You were walking in the woods. A wild animal came and attacked you. It knocked you down and wouldn’t let you up. It clawed at your chest.” He opened up my hospital gown in the front revealing my bare chest. He gently touched the three long adjacent scratches. Images of a wild animal scratching at my chest filled my mind.
“It bit your lip with extreme force." He placed his thumb on the side of my lip. "It made its way to your neck. It ripped and tore at your skin with its sharp fangs. The bites cut deep into your skin. It didn’t stop. You couldn’t breathe. It kept going.” Images of myself lying on a path in the woods stretched out and vulnerable to this wild animal filled my mind. “I just so happened to be driving in the area at the time. I saw you. I got out of my car and shot it with my rifle. I picked you up and laid you down in the back seat of my car. I took my shirt off and wrapped it around your neck to help with the bleeding. I then took you to the hospital. That is exactly what happened.” His eyes loosened on mine. He now just gave me a longing gaze.
I unconsciously pulled his lips onto mine. The oxygen tube kind of got in the way but that didn’t matter. Ethan saved me. He kissed back very gentle not to hurt me.
"What’s going on?” Three nurses frantically ran in responding to my help calls.
Ethan got off of me and stood on the floor. “The drugs got the best of her. I should get going.”
The nurses shrugged and walked over to me and felt my forehead. Another nurse came in with a cart.
"Okay sweetie, we have to operate on your neck. This will make you sleep.” A nurse walked over to me overly friendly. She put a drug in my IV. I watched her. The room got blurry and I fell asleep.
I woke up to blinding lights. I looked around me confused.
I saw a blurry figure come into view. My eyes adjusted and Haven came into view.
“Hey Cadence,” She sat on the edge of the bed and put a tray of chocolate chip muffins on my lap. “I brought you breakfast. The nurses said it was ok.”
