I was laying in bed, staring into the darkness of the room. I always had trouble sleeping the day before my birthday.
My mind was a complete mess, scattered with unanswered questions. Would Blue Boy ever try to do the stupid thing I did? Is Murdoc still the sadistic ass he used to be? Am I really independent when my emotions depend on the people around me?

I turn on my side, looking at the digital clock on my nightstand. 10:49pm. I guess I should at least try and get some rest.

---

After a few hours of sleep (most of it being tossing and turning) I silently swept out of bed, careful to not wake Noodle. It was 5am. I wanted to sneak out and get some alone time before Blue Boy spills the beans on me aging. So very special...

I make my way slowly downstairs, not bothering to take a coat near the door. The streets were quiet and most stores were still closed since last evening. I put my hands in the pockets of my jeans, fiddling with the lighter I had found the day before. The air was fresh and crisp this early in the morning without the ruckus of cars and taxis drowning out the day.

I hear the sound of footsteps faintly behind me. I turned to be met with nothing.
"Odd..."
I continued, hurrying my pace slightly as the footsteps grew closer. Suddenly, an arm wrapped itself around me.

"Happy birthday, love." I heard, before my head stung with pain and everything went black.

---

It hurt. Goddamnit, it hurt. I tried placing my hand on my head but I felt weak as hell. I wasn't sure if the thuds I heard were from someone walking in front of me or my head pounding.

As my vision restored, I glanced around. I was not on the sidewalk anymore... The beige walls, the scattered underwear, the empty beer bottles... I was...

"Miss home much?"
I was at Josh's.
"Why are you here?! Why... Why am I here!?" I stuttered, scared beyond comprehension.
"Shut up!" Josh, pulled me up by the collar of my t-shirt, the back of it digging into my neck.
"I told you we weren't over, but you didn't obey. So..." he dropped me with a thud and turned his back to me. "I took matters into my own hands."
"Let me go!" I said, trying to sound as courageous as possible.
"Oh, you're not leaving without apologising, love." he smirked, turning his head to the side. "You've been very bad."

His words sent chills down my spine. Was this just some sick game of cat and mouse?

"But..." he said, turning on his heels and looking down at me. "It is your birthday..." His smile grew wider and his eyes travelled down my body. Before I could question him, my phone's notification went off.
"What is that?" He says angrily.
I pull the phone out of my jeans pocket and look at the text.
"I...it's Blue Boy... he wants to know where I am..."
His eyes grew wild. He dragged me up against the wall and held me down forcefully.
"You tell him you're fine or I won't be as gently with your birthday present."
At this stage, I was already crying. Through my blurred vision I send the text, Josh watching me intensely before I press send.
"Good. Now..." he took the phone and tossed it on the couch. "...let's celebrate it the right way..." he said, trialling a hand down my waist. "My treat..."
