"When does Scott come back?" Y/N's aunt asked her, as she poured herself a glass of wine. She held up the green bottle offering it to Y/N but Y/N declined.

"He come back next Saturday," Y/N answered.

Her aunt nodded her head, taking a sip of the red wine. "He's been gone a long time. I bet you miss him."

Y/N nodded. "Yea, he's been gone almost a month now. It's weird because I don't think we've ever been apart for this long."

It was true. Y/N and her best friend Scott had never been apart for weeks at a time. They had met in kindergarten and been best friends ever since. The two of them were always together. He would go on vacation with her and she with him. Basically if one of them went out of town, the other would be right there with them. Everyone that knew the two of them, knew they could always be found together. If they weren't together then they would know where the other one was. It had always been like since they were little and Y/N hoped as they grew older that their relationship wouldn't change too much.

Leaving the kitchen, Y/N wandered around her grandparents house, saying hi to her extended family members. The big house was filled with all of her cousins, aunts, uncles, and some friends. This was how every Sunday was and Y/N loved it. She loved how close her family was. She felt very lucky. The one person that was missing was Scott. He always came with her and her family loved him. They always joke about how Scott and Y/N will get married one day in the future. The two of them always laughed with everyone but Y/N secretly hoped that something romantic would happen between the two of them.

Half the time they acted like they were together anyway. They liked to hold hands when they went out. He normally always paid for her anywhere they went. When they were hanging out at home, they would lay on the couch wrapped in each other's arms. Over the past few month's, Y/N's feelings for him had grown stronger and there was nothing more that she wanted to be doing than laying on the couch with Scott at this particular moment. Luckily, they would be back together in a week. Only seven more days to go.

It was weird not having him around and truth be told she probably would not get used to it. Sure they talked and/or texted almost every night even if it was for just a few minutes but she missed having someone to laugh with and talk to about her day. He would always listen to her vent about her problems and try to offer advice even if it wasn't always the best. She loved hearing him talk about baseball and football because he always lit up and got really into it.

He was at a baseball camp, across the country from her and it had been difficult seeing him go. The car ride home from the airport had been miserable. She was surprised she had made it home in one piece.

Y/N pulled her black Jeep into a parking space labeled 'unloading/picking up.' In front of them a family greeted each other, hugging and laughing, clearly excited to see each other. This was what she wanted to be doing. Not dropping him off. Tears began to form in eyes as she quickly closed them not wanting Scott to see.

"It's only for a few weeks," Scott whispered, lacing his fingers with hers.

Y/N nodded, fighting the large lump that had formed in her throat.

They sat quietly for a few moments, neither of them wanting to be the first to move. Finally, Scott glanced at the clock on the dashboard, sighing.

"I should get my stuff out," he mumbled.

His hand moved away from hers as she watched him get out of the car. The back passenger door opened and he reached in pulling out his two suitcases, carrying them to the sidewalk and placing them down besides him.
