Chapter 6 - Race to the end

Jenny opened her eyes needing to use the loo. Every time she tried to move, Alec held on tighter. She tried to move his arm but he moved closer, cuddling her. "Alec, wake up, I need to use the loo. Please sweetheart, I really need to go." She shook his arm.

"Ugh, go back to sleep, it's too early to get up."

"Alec, I need the loo, please wake up and let me go." She slapped his shoulder.

He opened his eyes, "Ouch, that hurt, what was that for?"

"I need the loo and you would not let go of me."

He lifted his arm and she ran, "Sorry, love." He turned over, cuddled the pillow and tried to go back to sleep.

"Oh God, Alec!"

Hearing her scream his name, he jumped up and ran to the ensuite. "Jenny, what is wrong?"

"Alec, I'm sorry, but I need you to go to a shop. I need female pads" she began crying. "I should have got some when we did the shopping. But we were so busy with other things, I forgot. I know it is embarrassing, I feel so stupid."

"Oh love, don't be sorry. I'm not embarrassed, I was married for twelve years and had my teenage daughter live with me. I have shopped for them before, do you want the pads or the tube things?"

She snickered,"The tube things will be great, I love you."

"I love you too, now why don't you take a nice long shower and I will be right back?"

He picked up a box of muffins along with Jenny's item, knowing breakfast was out of the question now. He showered and changed in Daisy's room, then made coffee to go.

Brushing crumbs off his tie as he exited the car in the garage and looking for anyone around. "Feeling better Love"

"Yes, thank you for this morning, I always get so emotional."

"No worries, let's go see what the day brings us."

Out of sorts and feeling irritable Jenny entered the squad kitchenette to get a cup of coffee, where Jim, Delia, Ed, and Will were whispering. "What are you lot whispering about?"

Will looked around conspicuously, "Jenny, did you see a woman at the boss's house this morning when you picked him up?"

"What, why?" she felt a knot in the pit of her stomach.

"Drake said he saw the boss buying tampons this morning at the shop by his house. I'm pretty sure his daughter is not back from Australia, so that means he's been shagging a woman. Which explains his good mood lately. We were just wondering if you saw her and what she looks like?"

Hesitating a minute, she swallowed bile rising in her throat. "I only saw him, and even if I did see a woman, I would not tell you guys. That is his private business."

Jim stepped away from the counter. "Quite right, that is what I have been telling them."

Ed Martin stuck his tongue out, "Spoilsports. I just wondered what type of woman he likes. His ex was a looker but oh did she have an attitude."

Jenny arched her eyebrows and licked her lips, "I don't know about that, but we had better get to work before he comes looking for us."

The morning meeting was chaotic with extra personnel crammed into the squad room listening for the orders of the day. All eyes were on Hardy.

"Listen up people, vigilance is the word of the day. Keep your eyes and ears open for any signs of trouble. I expect maximum effort from everyone today. SOCO Young, if you will direct your team to patrol the beaches looking for any signs of Rainbow users and anyone in distress. Also, thank you for your participation in this effort." Brian blushed and mumbled you're welcome."
