"Did you turn them off or somethin?" Dustin asked and Jeremy nodded slowly, wiping the slight tears in his eyes.
"Last time t-they shut off it was for like a-an hour...which means that they've bought us s-some time. Nick, y-you learned how to deactivate it, s-so you can figure out to stop this right?"
"Hmm...well...does anybody know a way to get a device that can scan brain waves?" Nick was writing something on a notepad and all of then shook their heads. "Okay...if I could hack into Jeremy's Squip I could track his brain signal from there, as well as his Squips. From there I may be able to hack the antivirus."
"Well how would you even hack into the Squips?" Michael cocked his head and Nick pulled his laptop out of his bag.
"Well if I knew the serial number or coding type, I could sync with the Squips. Since they're activated but shut down, they should all be very aware of what's going on right?"
"Well...I dunno, Jeremy?"
"T-The last time they shut off, which w-was yesterday, and it was just solely Eric, he seemed aware o-of what happened to me, but when he d-deactivated...on Halloween, he had to look over all m-my actions." Jeremy shuttered just thinking about Halloween.
"Was there any elements of those two events that were different?" Jeremy thought about Nick's question before realizing yes, in fact, things had been very different.
"Halloween...I w-was drunk. And he shut off that way. The second time he automatically remembered e-everything. He must've been active in my...mind...you think they're on in my mind!?"
"Jere I dunno, they're in your mind. What would that even mean?" Michael had began running his hands through Jeremy's hair, and the brunette looked up and then over at Nick.
"I think I know what he's saying. If he isn't awake, at least, not here, then maybe he can communicate with the Squips and help stop the antivirus. Like telepathy!!"
"Nick how are you so smart?" Dustin teased, ruffling his boyfriend's hair, which cause the youngest male in the room to become extremely flustered.
"Jeremy, you've gotta get yourself passed out. And I'll track what you do by writing it down on a doc. We'll figure out what might be causing said reactions, wake you up, and ask you what happened."
"O-Okay...if I freak out, wake me up. Michael, lay me o-on my bed."
"Okay." Michael carried Jeremy to the bed and sat him down on it, helping readjust the pillows. "You sure they're active right now?"
"Mmhm. Now, I need m-my space or else...or else..." Jeremy yawned and was passing out slowly and after a few minutes he'd passed out.
***
"W-Wha-Woah...is this...is this my mind?" Jeremy was standing in what looked like his room, but everything was a blue tint. He heard something from downstairs and ran down there to see the Squips fighting what Jeremy assumed to be the antiviruses.
"They're already here!?" Jeremy yelled and they all turned back to look at Jeremy in shock.
"Jeremy? Why are you here? How are you here?" Winston yelled and Jeremy shrugged. "Okay...umm...can you help us!?"
"That's why I'm here...but how can I help exactly?"
"Help us fight them? If you can. I don't want you getting hur-" Shane looked down and seen the female Antivirus's blade like weapon in his stomach. He froze and all the Squips stared at him in pain.
"Bug Number 2.0 accessed. Beginning termination process." The blade was removed but the hole in Shane's stomach didn't go away. He touched it and his hand glitched out a bit.
"G-Guys...what's happen1ng?" His voice had become distorted and his eyes a reddish color.
"What's wrong with him!?" Jeremy was panicking and Winston blocked another termination blade and pulled Shane back and into Jeremy's arms.
"He's gonna die." Sal bit his lip to avoid from tears and Jeremy looked down at Shane, who's glasses had fallen off and his eyes were tearing up and glitching out, like static.
"N-No. No he can't die. He'll be fine...he has to be fine..." Jeremy was crying a bit and Shane faked a smile at him.
"Jer3my, it's okay...as long as the oth3rs live...you'll be 0k4y...I promise..." Shane's voice was distorting even more as the smile faded into a face of pain, he was clenching his chest and Jeremy felt his head becoming less crowded...and didn't like it.
He picked Shane up and ran upstairs, not realizing Eric had followed him. He sat Shane on his mental bed and it felt like watching a family member on their death bed.
He heard footsteps and looked up to see Eric staring at them in pain.
"E-Eric...I should've realized this would've hurt you..."
"I mean this is MY fault. They're all going to die because of me! I was already faulty...and they're going to suffer because of me! This is my fault Jeremy..."
"E-Eric...it's...it's not y-your fault..." Shane whispered and Eric felt his "heart" shattering at the appearance of the nicest Squip to him. Jeremy moved out of the room as Eric sat down next to the dying Shane.
"Yes it is. I'm defective, you four shouldn't have even existed but now that you're here you've proven much more effective on Jeremy's mind and stability and...and I haven't. I've been a dick to all of you and if anybody deserves to be terminated code it's me. I did this. I screwed up everything. I've said it before and I'll say it again... I'll say it one thousand times if I have to that this is forever my fault."
"Eric d0n't b-bl4me your$elf...you didn't know the programmers would f1nd 0ut...I kn0w you f3el bad. But it's okay. You're 0kay... you're still h3re to take care of Jeremy...w3're nothing but a side ass3t... we're extensions...you're the r3al Squ1¶ h3Re...¥0u'r3 who Jeremy needs. Even if me and the rest die, 1f w3 di3...y0u can still st0¶ the antivirus...pr3vent your l0s$ of em0t1ons...you got it?" Shane was smiling again and Eric began crying as he felt Shane's arms wrap around him. "You'll be fine...I pr0mi$e..." Shane's body was slowly becoming see through, glitching in and out of reality.
"Shane..."
"Y3ah?"
"Y-You believed in me before the rest of the Squips...You... You're like a brother of sorts to me...I-I love you...and I'm going to miss you...I'll... I'll get you back...I promise..." Eric felt as Shane's body faded out of his arms and Jeremy looked into the room in sadness.
Shane had finally dissappeared completely, except for distortion of air that was caused by the remaining code. Eric quickly preserved the code in his own and looked over to the worried Jeremy.
"Eric...I'm sorry...we need to help the others."
"You're right. I'm not going to let them die. Not like Shane...I've already lost him...I can't afford to let the rest die."
