“Shit,” Harry cursed under his breath as he towed me quickly to the edge of the pool. He hefted me out easily and laid me down, sitting down next to me before he leaned over me, brushing my wet hair out of my face. “Shit, Dia are you okay?”
I couldn’t answer on account that I still couldn’t breathe though if I could answer the only thing coming out of my mouth would have been a long string of profanities.
Finally, with several very unattractive coughs, sputters and hacking my throat cleared and I inhaled a huge gulp of air, eyes wide before I exhaled long and slow, letting my eyes close.
“You okay?” Harry asked after I got my breath back.
I covered my face with my hands for a moment before I lifted them to shade my eyes from the sun when I opened them and glared at him, “Just perfect,” I said venomously.
He grinned impishly, “My bad. I forgot you’re still living and need oxygen.”
“My bad?” I echoed as I sat up, “I fucking almost died!”
He shrugged, “Well, you didn’t so who cares?” he said easily as he stood up, stretching a hand down to me.
I grasped it after a moment’s hesitation and he helped me to my feet, “I care. I could have sworn I saw my Great Aunt Sally for a second.”
He rolled his eyes, “I’m sorry for nearly drowning you,” he said, pulling on my arm until our bodies were almost pressed against each other, shoulder to shoulder, tattoo to tattoo as he leaned his head down close to mine with a lazy grin that made my heart trip again.
Dammit.
“Apology not accepted,” I said, narrowing my eyes at him as I looked in his deep green eyes. Instead of being creeped out by the glowing green eyes like I had been in the beginning, I found I kind of liked them. And just as I was getting lost in his eyes Harry spoke again.
“Well, that’s too bad. But I guess I’ll just have to make you forgive me,” a devilish smile covering his face as he shook his head, sending water droplets flying from his wet curls.
“What do you—” I started but was cut off when he knocked my legs out from underneath me, caught me, and then took a running start before he leapt into the pool.
We plunged under water before he brought us back to the surface, me sputtering and coughing since I wasn’t expecting it.
“Ready to forgive me yet?” he asked, still holding me but now he shifted me so we were both vertical, pressed against each other.
“Never,” I rasped, the chlorinated water making a gross feeling and taste in my mouth and throat.
“Hmm, pity,” he said, looking disappointed before he pushed me underwater again.
“Harry!” I cried as I came up for air, only for him to dunk me again. “Stop…it!”
“What are the magic words?” he asked cheekily as he held me by the waist out of the water.
I put my hands on his shoulders, gripping him tightly so he couldn’t dunk me again, “I forgive you,” I panted, “Now stop dunking me.”
He sighed, “Fine,” he dropped me back into the water but didn’t let go, “So what do you want to do for fun?”
“Can drowning you count as fun?” I mused.
“I can’t drown,” he shrugged, “We’d be here forever…not that I would mind or anything.”
I hit the back of his head, “Well sorry, but I can’t live forever.”
“You could if you wanted too,” he said, starting to spin us in slow, lazy circles again.
