Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.
The downtown area of City K was eerily silent. The only thing I heard was the sounds of my footsteps reverberating off the walls of the rundown buildings and dark alleys nearby. I kept my hand on the handle of the dagger strapped to my hip as I looked all around searching for signs of activity.
According to the report I got from the Hero Association, this part of town was entirely abandoned by civilians due to the heavy gang presence.
So why was I walking out in the open along the sidewalk?
To bring them out, of course.
They had to have seen me by now, but there were no signs of movement. They've been known to fire at anyone who dares enter their territory, so considering that they haven't fired at me yet, they're probably waiting to jump me.
"Ma'am, before you go..."
"Hmm?"
"Please understand that the gang you will confront is full of ruthless men. Their crimes are not exclusive to murder, if you understand what I mean..."
I knew the risks, but these risks were going to be the reason for my success. Once I draw them out, I can use them to figure out where their lair is. After all, this gang has only been here for about a week, so they shouldn't be something I can't handle by myself. The mission recommended that it be taken by either 1 B-Class hero or 5 C-Class heroes, so 1 A-Class hero should be more than plenty.
I was interrupted from my thoughts by an ear-piercing screech.
Around the corner!
I drew my dagger and assumed a fighting stance only to be greeted by an unexpected sight. There were several men seizing, laying in puddles of their own blood. There was a man in the center of the group holding another by the collar of his shirt, holding a katana to his throat, his back turned to me. He was definitely not one of them. His skin-tight body suit stood in stark contrast to the hoodie-wearing, tattoo-ridden men around him.
"Tell me where your boss is." His voice was deep and calm. I quietly slid my dagger back into its sheath.
"He's in the huge warehouse on the edge of town! It's guarded by tons of men, though! A single hero won't be able to take everyone down!"
The mysterious man sniggered.
"Firstly, you underestimate me. And secondly," he rose the blade up to his throat without applying pressure, "I am no hero."
"HEY!" He whipped his head towards me, his long hair and scarf following suit. He glared at me as he dropped the gang member and raised his weapon in my direction.
"Who are you?"
"That's what I want to know," I growled, slowly reaching for the spear on my back.
