Once I finally made it home, I took off my stupid hoodie and threw it into a random corner. I locked the door behind me and jumped onto my couch.

"Argh!!!!" I groaned at the nothingness.

It had been four days since I lost my dagger. Whenever I wasn't doing hero shit, I was out looking for it/"patrolling" or investigating pawn shops all around to see if some asshole took it and sold it. It was really expensive, but that wasn't the point. It was mine, dammit, and I don't understand how it could have gone somewhere when I keep it so tight and close to me at all times!

"And how dare that old bitch call me a criminal..."

Ring-ring-ring!

"Who the hell?" I grumbled and grabbed my phone.

Ring-ring-ring!

I need to change this ringtone...I never changed it from the basic one...

Ring-ring-ring!

The screen was lit up and displayed an unfamiliar number. It didn't have the same area code as the city did, and it wasn't a contact, so...

Decline call.

"Stupid spam callers..." I unlocked my phone and went into the settings to change the ringtone.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

A bomb isn't going off. Calm down.

Bu-ring-ring-ring! Bu-ring-ring-ring!

This is just higher-pitched and more annoying than the default one.

Dun-dun---Ring-ring-ring! Ring-ring-ring!

"Again?!"

I know I don't know this number, but this is the second time they've called...

I hit the button.

"Hello?"

"I found something you might be looking for," a deep voice resonated in my ear.

Oh my God. You've got to be kidding me. A million different ways to respond flooded my head. After briefly giving it some thought, I decided playing hard to get would probably be best. "Oh? Like what, Sonic?" I innocently asked.

"Like a dagger with a gold hilt and gems. It's not often that I come across items like this, much less women who wield them."

"You've got a good memory, I'll give you that."

"Where are you?"

"If you were able to find my number, then why can't you figure out my location for yourself?"

"I'm a ninja, not a stalker."

"If I tell you, then how do I know you won't kill me or something?" I over-dramatically asked, knowing fully well what his response was going to be.

"If I wanted you dead, then I would have killed you already." So predictable for an alleged ninja...

"I'm in my apartment."

"Where is it?"

Should I have hesitated before telling a strange man, scratch that, strange CRIMINAL that I've only seen twice where I lived? Yes. Should I have agreed to meet him somewhere else, out in public, where our meeting would be safer? Probably. Did I do either of these things? No. Instead, I told him where my apartment building was and gave him apartment number. He hang up right afterwards, making my phone briefly light up before returning to darkness. I ran my fingers through my hair with a single hand and laid back onto the couch.

Why am I leading him further and further into my life...better yet, why does he keep coming up in situations like this? I feel like I should push him away, but this isn't necessarily a--

Knock-knock-knock.

Shit, that was fast.

I got up and walked over to the door. I peered through the peep hole to make sure it was him before unlocking the door and throwing it wide open.

"Come in."

I told you Sonic would be back soon enough! :) We had to see a bit of the reader's backstory first, though!

I'm having so much fun writing this series! It's turning out even better than I expected. Thank you for your continued support! If there's anything I can do to improve anything, then please let me know. ^^ See you in the next part!
