Gabriel

"Your Highness,"

A woman's voice pulls me out of my thoughts. I look down from my throne to see Nathalie, my scribe, and most trusted assistant. A bead of sweat forms on her forehead, but she quickly wipes it away.

"Proceed," I say, my voice echoing in the cavernous hall.

She straightens. "A man has come to our doors claiming to be your son," she starts warily.

"Adrien?" I boom, my voice making her flinch.

She nods slowly, "Yes, sir. He says he has something to show you. He won't let anyone else see it, that it's for your eyes only."

I take a deep breath. "Let him in."

Nathalie nods, and walks towards the exit. Before she leaves, though, she turns around.

"Sir?" she calls.

My eyes pierce into hers. "Yes, Nathalie?"

A slight pause. "The servants believe that he is the pirate Chat Noir."

I inhale sharply. Surely this pirate cannot be my son. Of course, I don't know where Adrien is...

Why does he have to be so much like his mother?

I straighten as the doors to my throne room are opened from the outside. A young man with blonde hair struts in, followed by four of my guards, carrying a covered boat. As they maneuver it, water splashes everywhere.

When the pirate captain reaches the steps to my throne, he signals for the guards to place the boat down. He gives me a mock bow, and flashes me a cocky grin. His green eyes glint mischievously in the light.

Just like Emilie's.

Adrien

"Well, well," Father calls down from his throne, "To what do I owe this visit, Chat Noir?" With a wave of his hand, the room is cleared.

I reach up and untie my mask. "Please, father," I say, throwing as much venom into the word as I can, "Adrien will do."

His eyes widen at the sight of me. He's hardly changed at all in ten years, but I must look like another person.

"To answer your question," I say, slowly walking back towards the boat. I whip the blanket off of the top, revealing Marinette. "She, is why I'm here."

I was hoping for him to be shocked, doubting his eyes, in disbelief, but he doesn't look the slightest bit surprised to see Marinette.

But why wouldn't he be surprised?

............................................................................

Marinette

Adrien. Where have I heard that name?

Before I have time to think, the piece of fabric that was covering me is whisked off, revealing a large room, and a man on a throne. This must be Adrien's father, King Gabriel.

The king's eyes are cold and calculating. Dispite this, he doesn't look surprised to see me.

My grip on the moth broach tightens. Nooroo thought it would be better if I took it off, so we wouldn't risk being separated.

Suddenly, the air drops a few degrees, and unfortunately, I recognize the feeling.

After spending years with Chloe, I've learned to block out the urge to comply. Nooroo has also told me that miraculous holders have special protection against the siren gift, so the holder isn't brainwashed into giving their miraculous away, but the call still remains.

I've never felt the Gift so strong before.

And where would it be coming from?

Gabriel

I reach out to the young minds in front of me. Adrien's eyes almost instantly glass over, but when I look at the girl, I only see confusion.

Then she looks up at me, and her expression melts into one of horror.

"You-" she stutters, "you're siren?"

"Indeed," I mutter. Why won't she comply? No matter. I'll just have to dispose of her.

"Adrien," I say. He stiffens, awaiting his orders. "Pick her up."

"No," she says, "No, Adrien listen to me!" I feel her own gift reach out. Adrien hesitates only momentarily before I strengthen my grasp on his mind.

She backs towards the side of the boat, and the whole thing tips over, spilling the girl onto the floor. Adrien walks wordlessly around the boat, and picks her up.

She squirms, screaming, "Adrien, put me down! You don't want to do this!", but he doesn't let go.

"Follow me," I command Adrien, and together we walk through the palace. I use my gift to clear the halls before we enter them, making all the servants steer clear of our path.

After some time, we exit the palace through a secret side door. It puts us on a cliff overlooking the sea.

With the girl still struggling, we ascend the narrow ledge that goes even further out.

I order Adrien to stand on the tip. "Drop her," I command.

The girls eyes widen as she tries, unsuccessfully, to get away. As she flails, a small gem falls from her closed. It falls just at Adrien's feet. "Nooroo!" she cries.

I step forward, and stoop to pick it up. It appears to be a broach.

Crack!

I look down to see a large split in the stone under our feet.

"Do it!" I say. And he does. Her screams echo off the cliff face.

Crack!

Before I can blink, the tip of the cliff breaks off.

I grab the edge of the cliff with one hand and grip the broach with my other. I look down.

Adrien doesn't even scream.
