Free From Black And White

My name is Asparagus Kelly. Yeah, my mom named me after a vegetable. I suppose it could've been worse, but it also could've been better. I have sisters named Aubergine and Azalea and brothers named Herb and Bean. Herb and Azalea were the lucky ones.

Here in Province Three, we are governed by a set of officials. The most prominent occupations taken up by people of our province is Law or something related to education or science. Our Province is the prized jewel of The Country. Only the most intellectual and educated people reside here. Educators from our Province sometimes visit other provinces to teach them because their educational facilities are almost always understaffed. They are the only people ever allowed to leave our province. It's not like we're trapped here. I mean, why would we want to leave?

Province Three, and pretty much the whole country, see everything in only black and white. There are no shades of grey. At all. There's just right and wrong. I suppose that was the problem.
