The next day, I woke up late. I almost fell off of my bed when the clock said 11:43 A.M.
I threw on a pair of white shorts and a peach colored blouse, and plaited my hair before rushing to the bathroom to ready myself.
I bet Dom was wondering where I was... I felt awful for sleeping so late. This was apparent when I dashed down the stairs to the front door. My mother stopped me.
"Margie, where do you think you are going?"
"I'm going to visit Dominic.. may I take your car?" She crossed her arms and looked at me. "Please??"
"Oh, alright," She put her keys in my hand. "Tell him I said hello." I excitedly hugged her and ran out the door.
The traffic was horrific on the way there. This time, Elvis' voice couldn't prevent me from banging the steering wheel angrily.
People looked at me suspiciously as I walked quickly through the lobby. I swear to God the elevator was slower than normal that day. Of course.
I began knocking on the door and heard slow footsteps, and then the door opened a little.
"Who are you?" It was his grandmother. She squinted at me.
"Uh, hi, I'm Margaret.. Dominic's girlfriend."
"He's not here. He go to doctor.."
"Oh..." I bet he was pissed when they found out. "Uh, do you know where exactly he went? Is Mr. Antonelli here?"
She held up a finger and yelled back into the apartment in italian. Sure enough, Mr. Antonelli came rushing to the door.
"Ah, Margaret!" He shook my hand. "What brings you here, huh?"
"Uh, about Dominic.. do you know what doctor he went to?"
"Oh, it's very close. It's just around the bend, a red brick building next to a large basketball court... very hard to miss," He directed me. "But he left quite a while ago.. you may catch him."
So then I was walking around the corner. I decided that if this office was so close, then it'd be useless to drive a few yards.
I looked around for a basketball court, and I was so glad when I found it, and the red brick building next to it.
I began walking up the stairs to the building, when the door swung open and out came Dom. I ran quickly up the remaining stairs.
"Margaret, what a good girlfriend you are," He grinned a little and hugged me. I kissed his neck as squeezed me tight.
"So," I began as we pulled apart. "You got the stitches?"
"Oh, God, yes. It was not a pleasant experience, let me tell ya," I got on my toes a little to pull his bottom lip out. Sure enough, there were about 3 stitches. He laughed, "You could've just asked."
"Oh hush," I poked his cheek. "So how did your father react when he found out?"
"He was furious, like, red face, neck veins sticking out furious. He just kept asking what my mother would think, and he kept slapping my arm real hard," He rubbed his arm and rolled his eyes. "He's being way too touchy about this.. I'm twenty, it's not like I'm 12 or some shit. He just needs to calm the fuck down." His jaw was clenched tightly and I rubbed his back like I did yesterday after he slapped Frankie.
"Dom, he's your dad. He's just doing what he has to. He's worried." His eyebrows were knitted in confusion.
"Worried about what? That I'll be kicked out of my non-existent college??"
