The Popular Girl

Today, the snow is falling. I walk into school, feeling a little weird. I just admitted to myself that i like the popular girl. But i'm so sure she likes me too, the way she trusted me to tell me all that stuff. I hold my head a little higher today. The door slams open...and my head goes back down.

Tessa enters, her burning hair cooled by the snow flakes resting on her head. Bella, on her left, runs her hand through her curly brown hair, shaking off the flakes. Then Elizabeth enters, her raven hair turned white.

They stride as a unit down the corridor. As they pass me, Elizabeth turns in my direction. She grins at me so i wave at her. They walk out of sight. Just then, a 'nerd' comes up to me.

"Were you just waving at elizabeth winters? Thee elizabeth winters?" he asks in shock.
I decide to rub it in a little.
"Yes i was...we're very good friends actually"
He looks at me in disbelief. "You're so lucky-she's so pretty" he says admiringly.
I turn and walk away from him. How dare he call her pretty?

I don't see her until history. The two weeks are up and the project is over. I walk into the classroom and look towards her seat. She isn't here yet. I sit at my desk and get my books.

After a minute or so, Tessa enters the room. She sits down and pushes the hair out of her face. Elizabeth comes in 30seconds after her. When she does, Tessa turns in her seat and strikes up a conversation to which Elizabeth responds with fake happy expressions.

When the teacher starts talking, they both look to the front. As Elizabeth turns, she catches me staring. Fuck that's embarrassing.
"So the assignments are due in today. Leave them on your desks before you go today. I'll grade them and you will have them back in 2 days. Anyway, what we are doing today is..."

The class came and went. As i get up to leave, i make eye contact with Elizabeth. She's about to wave but is quickly rushed out the room by Tessa. My smile fades and i leave the room.
I get through the rest of the school day without seeing her.

Today at lunch, i sit at my usual table and wait for Daniel. I start to eat my sandwich and when the door slams open like usual, i turn my head like the rest of Tessa's admirers. She enters, followed by Bella. Once Bella enters we all wait for Elizabeth. Only she's not alone.
Around her waist, is Daniels arm.

I watch as Tessa sits on Nathan's lap like usual, Across from her, Elizabeth sits down, Daniel next to her. What the fuck?
Tessa starts to talk to Elizabeth and Daniel and i can tell he's trying to not seem bothered that thee Tessa Smith is talking to him or that his arm is around thee Elizabeth Winters.
Is this what she was all fake happy about in history?

I can't tear my eyes away from the sight in front of me. My friend, Daniel, is sitting at the footballer/cheerleader table with all the populars talking to Tessa with his arm around Elizabeth. Am i jealous?

Yes. And also confused. How the fuck did he manage to become popular? And get such a beautiful girl? More specifically, the girl that i want.

When the bell goes, i quickly stand up, hoping that i can grab Dan to one side. But he's refusing to let Elizabeth go. Probably extremely smitten by her.

I continue to walk behind the pair until he finally lets her go so she can go to class.
"Bye Lizzy!" he says enthusiastically. She gives him a half smile and goes in. As soon as she's in the room, i grab Dans arm. He turns and meets my eyes.

"Dan what the fuck is happening?" i ask.
His surprised face becomes serious.
"I finally got what i wanted. I made it onto the football team, i'm popular. Tessa said that because i was in the popular clique, i would need a popular girlfriend. I never thought it would be Lizzy. She's gorgeous." he smiles a little but returns to being serious "i can't really be seen with you so i'll see you around." he turns and walks away.

I'm stunned at everything he has said. I just can't believe it. I walk to class with many thoughts running through my mind.
