Pain. It's a very common thing. Especially when you're where I am, which is on the streets. Yep, I live in a little box in an old park.
'How long have I lived here?' You may ask. Well it feels like a long time, but I'm not certain. My mum and dad used to fight a lot, and one day when I was around nine years old, my mum had enough.
She fled. She left me with that... That... Bastard. She knew what he did... What he was capable of. And I resent her for it. He hated me, he said I reminded him too much of the women he loved, the women he cheated on, the women that left us. He made me stay in my room all the time, only able to leave for the restroom and chores. But only after he had left for work. I haven't said a word since my mum left. I know how to, of course; But I choose not to. I feel wrong, when I do. Like I shouldn't have the right.
He only fed me twice a day, he would slip bread and water under my door. But sometimes he would forget, Leaving me with no food or water.
So I followed in my mum's footsteps and I left as well.
Now, here I am; thirteen and living in a box, by myself. All alone with nothing. No voice, No shelter, No water, No food, No company.Occasionally a nice person would stop by, and put some money in my trusty cup, so I could by some food. But some people also stole money from it, those days would suck.
"Hello there, young lady," I heard a male voice say.
I politely smiled at the strange looking man. The man was old, with knowing blue eyes hidden behind spectacles, and a long beard.
He held a piece of parchment out to me, and sat on the ground next to where I was, in my box.
"Read it. I promise it will change your life, " He smiled at me, as I opened it, and I began reading.
With every word my curiosity grew. With every syllable my life pieced together. I was a witch. I was going to a school for Witches and Wizards, where people like me will be.
"You will accompany me to get everything you will need, and stay with me over the remainder of the holiday," The man said, standing.
"By the way, my name is Professor Albus Dumbeldor, the Headmaster of Hogwarts,"
I waved, and grabbed my handy dandy whiteboard and marker, quickly writing my name.
Riley Scarlett Ralston.
The man, Dumbeldore, held out his arm, for me to grab, which I reluctantly did.
"Now, be warned Apparation is a very difficult process for beginners. Try not to puke," Dumbeldore warned.
Suddenly I felt as if I was being forced into a small tube, and when my feet hit the solid ground, I felt Dumbeldore steady me so I would not fall.
"Ah, here we are. Diagon Ally,"
It was spectacular. The shops were so bright, and welcoming, like something out of a fairytail.
I handed the list of what I would need to the happy old man and he directed me to a shop that I believe sold robes.
"Hello, Albus. Another first year? Why are you escorting her?" I turned towards the women's voice. She was an older woman, maybe around her mid 40's.
"Hello, Ashley (Random Name, don't know if one was ever even mentioned.) This is Riley, she will be starting her third year and she needs a new set of dress robes if you don't mind," He kindly smiled at her, and she quickly got the stuff needed to measure me, afterwards she gestured for me to stand on the pedestal thing.
"Ah, yes. You're quite small for a third year, deary," She kept mumbling incoherent things and I quickly blocked her out.
She soon finished, and put my newly made robes into a bag which she handed to Dumbledore.
"Now, if you do not mind I will be going to get you your books. Ollivander's is right down there; I feel it would be faster if we split up. I'll come get you soon as I gather the rest of your things," He smiled, pointing towards the big wand shop before walking into a separate book store.
I sighed contently, and walked towards the shop he directed me to, I walked into the empty looking store and looked around.
It was actually very pretty looking. Well- to me, anyways.
"Ahhh, Ms. Ralston! I was wondering when I would be seeing you. Quite late, yeah?" I looked towards the voice to see a scrawny looking man on a ladder arranging what could only be wands.
I could only smile and nod at him, hoping he wouldn't think it was rude. I just wasn't ready to talk, yet.
