"He's gonna kiss me."

My breath hitched in my throat. I heard him sniffle and I smiled. "Hi," he whispered. I giggled and returned his shy greeting. "Girl, I really... like I just, I really—"

I pressed my lips to his and wrapped my arms around his neck. He kissed back immediately and pulled me closer. In that moment, I noticed every detail of what was happening. Crickets were chirping in the front yard, and a dog was barking from somewhere down the road. Gus's hands made their way to the waistband of my shorts and then down to my back pockets. He pulled away and I took a quick breath, looking up at him. I wish I could see his eyes.

Silence.

I didn't know what to say. I enjoyed every second of what just happened, but I hesitated to say anything. Gus sniffled and another shy "hi" escaped his lips. I giggled and rested my head on his chest. "You're adorable, Gus." He chuckled, his hands still in the back pockets of my shorts. I put a hand on his chest and gave him another peck on the lips.

"Goodnight, Gus."

"Night, Girl."

Once Friday rolled around, Gus and I had already planned our weekend. Chase was staying with Chris, and I wouldn't have to worry about my mom coming home until Sunday night. It was perfect. The only thing keeping us from our plans was the three hours we had until school was over. I grabbed my wallet and made my way down the hallway towards the cafeteria. Passing a few preppy bitches who weren't paying attention, I walked through the lunch line.

Once I paid for my food, I pushed open the courtyard doors and started toward the table Gus and I usually ate at. I slowed my pace at the sight of a blonde girl sitting across from him. She was wearing a black sweatshirt and some leggings, and her hair was in a messy bun on the top of her head, dyed blue. A pretty bitch, definitely. I watched her smile at something Gus said, and my gaze met hers. Her eyes followed me as I sat down beside him.

He was still laughing as he turned to me. Gus gave me a quick peck on the cheek and grabbed the water bottle I'd bought. "O, this is my girl. Girl, this is Owen." He has a nickname for her. I smiled at her. "I'm Mazie, nice to meet you. Your name's pretty."

"Aye thanks ma, it makes me feel like a real man," she joked. "She called me "ma," I thought to myself. "You just move here?" I asked her. Gus laughed beside me, and Owen joined in soon after. "Nah, just ain't feel like comin' the first few weeks." I mouthed an "oh" and took a sip from the water bottle Gus had stolen from me earlier. "She a good kid," he said, chiming in and describing me. I didn't really say anything after that. I fucked around on my phone for the rest of lunch, and walked back to class alone.

After my last class, I made my way to the student parking lot to wait for Gus. I sill drove his no-license-havin' ass everywhere, I didn't really mind though. Before I managed to get past the last set of double doors, I heard Gus's voice behind me. "Aye ma! Been fuckin' calling your name! You ain't hear or something?" I turned around to acknowledge his presence, but said nothing.

Before I turned back around, I watched him turn his head in curiosity and jog to catch up. "Girl, you ight?" I hummed a yes and pushed the doors open. I moved to grab the keys out of my back pocket, but Gus snatched them before I could loop my finger through the key chain. "Look at me," Gus said gently, his voice raspy. "What is wrong witchu?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "Nothing... what's wrong witchu?" I asked, mocking him.
