My heart dropped. Not this bitch... please not this bitch. I sighed. "So... do I call you Owen or Reese?" My voice was casual, but I was dying inside. "Ion care. I guess just whatever," she replied. "Wow. What a great answer, thanks." But I nodded calmly and ran my fingers through my hair. "Okay," I started. "Do you want to do a PowerPoint or an essay?" Owen scoffed. "Definitely not a fuckin' essay."
"Mhmm. This'll be fun..."
At the end of class, we'd gotten about half a slide finished. "Okay, do you want me to email you the link? That way we can both work on it at home." She shook her head and slid back in her seat. "Ion got WiFi at home." I was not about to do this entire fucking project. I wasn't a fan of this Owen bitch, but I guess I was just gonna have to get over it. "You wanna come over this afternoon or something? We can work on it at my place." I gritted my teeth and prayed she didn't notice. "Haha, yeah. You had a hard time asking that, didn't you," she asked with a laugh. I chuckled and looked down at my desk. "Nah, I just-"
"I get it, ma. For real. But me and Gus... we ain't like that. When it comes to him though, don't get too... ion know. Attached." I couldn't do anything but look at her. I mean, apparently she knew the ups and downs of being around Gus, and I didn't really have the experience to question her. She interrupted my thoughts with a laugh. "Ma, he's lookin' at you." My voice dropped to a whisper. "Wait... like right now?" I'd been avoiding him all day. Owen nodded and laughed. "Why aren't you two talking?" she whispered back.
I rolled my eyes and and rested my forehead in my hands. "I was a bitch on Friday and he was a bitch back and... I fucking hate myself." Owen shook her head and slapped my arm lightly. "Kid forgives easy. You'll be ight." I sighed. "I don't wanna push it though. He's the only real friend I've had in a while." She raised an eyebrow and sniffled. "So? Just pick ya skinny lil ass up an' go sit on his dick over there." I scoffed and looked up at her with a grin. "You're an ass, oh my god." She laughed and gave a shrug, taking her phone out of her pocket.
I zoned out for a minute and looked across the room at the wall. Owen interrupted my thoughts by hitting my arm with the back of her hand. "You need an invitation or something? A condom? Jesus, shit. Just do it." I sighed and shook my head. "I'll wait till later. I drive him home everyday." She seemed to find that amusing. "You ever been in his house?" she asked with a raised brow and a grin. I was confused, yet again. "Yeah... why?"
"What way did you go in?" Owen questioned. I put a strand of hair behind my ear. "The... garage." She nodded slowly and mouthed an "oh." Owen crossed one leg over the other and looked up from her phone again. "That's why. Ask him if you can hang at his place... but don't tell him I told you to ask." I narrowed my eyes and gave her a side glance. "Okay..."

At lunch, Owen and I made it to the table before Gus did. I watched him shove past a group of people as he made his way towards us. He looked tired and distracted. I wanted to hold his hand. He walked past Owen's side of the table where he usually sat and put his lunch tray beside mine. I was shocked. He just... plopped his ass down. Gus grabbed my hand and laced our fingers together. He kissed the back of my hand and brought it to his cheek.
Owen watched in silence. We made eye contact for a split second, but she looked back down at her food. I turned my head to look at Gus. "I'm sorry," I whispered. His brown eyes softened, but he raised his eyebrows. "So you ain't hate me, Girl?"
"He thought I hated him."
Gus and I looked away from each other to watch Owen put her phone to her ear and stand from the table. "Perfect timing, Owen." I thought to myself. Bringing my attention back to Gus, I shook my head. "Of course ion hate you." Gus sighed. He seemed so relieved. "I'm sorry I was a bitch though," I apologized. He shook his head. "It's ight, Girl. What the fuck was up though... like what did I do." I began to explain myself, but stopped mid-sentence. I was in fact... a jealous bitch. "You didn't do anything. I was just being an ass," I lied.
