NAIDA

I immediately began my search for jewelry—not that I had to.

The women here were covered in it.

The light from the chandeliers reflected on each earring, bracelet, watch, and ring. It was blinding, having so many opportunities.

A black-haired girl in a sapphire blue gown walked by me and I couldn't help but check her out.

Don't judge me.

Sometimes I wish I wasn't alone, but being a single bisexual girl isn't so bad.

I mean, shameless flirting is great.

I grabbed a pink drink from a passing tray and made my way over to her.

"Hey." I smiled while I spoke to her.

"Hello," She replied, swaying to the music.

"What brings you here?" I asked, but I couldn't stay focused on her eyes. She was dripping with sapphires and silver. The perfect target, but I'd feel too bad if we started to hit it off.

"You know Mr. Chung's daughter? I'm one of her friends."

"Oh, I've never met her!"

"She's great; I can take you to meet her later." She replied. Her voice was smooth, almost as smooth as her polished, golden-brown skin.

"I'd love that! But, if you don't mind me asking, where are you from?"

She chuckled and I noticed that she held no glass in her hand. If I robbed her, she'd remember.

"I was born in India. My name's Chahna, by the way."

"I've always wanted to go to India." I replied, checking the time on a wall clock. I really needed to speed up.

"Well, it was nice meeting you, hopefully we can meet up in a couple hours or something?" I offered, knowing that I wouldn't be able to follow through.

"Sure. Um?"

"Elara."

"Okay then, Elara." She grinned and turned away from me, walking off to place that I couldn't see.

A quick glance at the clock told me that I was definitely behind schedule.

Out of anger toward myself, I kicked at no one and ended up hitting a man with very broad shoulders. He winced in pain and walked a few feet away from me.

I walked over to the food table and grabbed a silver bracelet that someone had left behind. It was about to be shoved into a hidden pocket on the bust of my dress until,

"What are you doing with that bracelet?"

I moved my hand quickly and slipped the cool bangle onto my wrist.

"It's mine; I was just putting it on; see?" I waved my wrist toward the cleanly-dressed man with blond hair.

"Hmm." He hummed and too, did not hold any glass in his hand.

His small, warm hand wrapped around my forearm.

"Just wanted to make sure that you weren't stealing anything." He whispered.

The song changed and couples began moving to the dance floor.

"Care to dance with me?"

I nodded and walked to an empty space with him.

Wow. I really should not be doing this.

I spotted Gaia talking to a man covered in watches. He took one off and let her hold it. She spotted me, excused herself, and ran over. When she spotted the man I was dancing with, she frowned and motioned me over.

"Naida, we need to talk." She mouthed.

"Excuse me, I have to go." I told the blond man and he nodded.

"Why are you dancing? You have things to do." Gaia said.

"Give me like five minutes and I'll get back to the job."

She rolled her eyes and waved me away. I grinned and made my way back over to the floor.

We resumed our dance.

"So, what is your name?" I asked him.

"Jimin."

I nodded.

"I'm Elara."

This time, he nodded.

We were silent for the rest of our time together. The songs changed. People came and went, the clock ticked, and sky became darker.

There was only an hour left.

/ questions /

do you wear jewelry often?

Only earrings. Necklaces never look good with my outfits and I always lose bracelets when I wear them.

do you consider yourself a good dancer?

I like to think I am, but I'm really not.
