John was dying inside. Figuratively of course. The embarrassment was too much for him to handle sometimes, and he broke into a laugh.

Mimi had a strange way with words when it came to the girls John brought into the house. She had a very particular standard for who she invited into her home, so putting (Y/n) in a passive-aggressive introduction was a way of testing her.

Mimi our on the kettle, her attitude visibly matching the whistle of the boiling water. Most girls John brought in tended to be rude or inappropriately close with the boy, and she just wanted to make sure he hung around with a nice one for once. Lucky for (Y/n), she was naturally shy towards that sort of thing.

After a few minutes of an extremely awkward experience for (Y/n), it seemed as though Mimi was pleased with the young girl's attitude and manner.

John asked (Y/n) to come upstairs with him to work on the project once they finished their tea. Mimi has just started reading the paper.

"The door stays open in this house, you know," Mimi stayed plainly.

"Yeah yeah," John retorted playfully.

(Y/n) felt awkward, and simply followed John up the creaking wooden stair.

Once in the room, (Y/n) looked around while John put on a record.

"Get a Job, by the Silhouettes," John laughed, clapping his hands once, "Mimi hates this song."

"If you'd only listen to its lyrical content," Mimi responder from downstairs. "And turn that song off! That or just close the door," she added.

John chose the latter. And so they made some shitty flowers. John found (Y/n) to be intelligent, and pretty adorable with the way she really wanted to get the project over with. So of course he did his best to delay the finished product. He had a feeling he liked the girl, but she didn't seem interested at the moment so he didn't ask her out just yet. Maybe he's just have to get to know her better.

He offered to walk (Y/n) home once they were done, and it was well past nine. The young girl thanked Mimi for her hospitality and the two were on their way.

They stopped at her doorstep, which was a two or three blocks from John's house. (Y/n) held the cooling clay in her hands, which was oh so graciously baked in Mimi's oven for a couple minutes to let it set in its shitty floral shape.

"Thanks for walking me home, and have a nice night, Lennon."

"It wasn't an issue. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Yeah, can't wait to see what your antics will be tomorrow morning!" the girl replied.

John chuckled, fixed his hair, and walked on home, turning back to her house once or twice. Right, tomorrow.

Once at his house, Mimi commented about how (Y/n) was such a nice young girl.

"Now she's the type of girl I would hope you'd be interested in dating... No more of the rude ones, Johnny" she smiled.

"She's just a friend, Mimi. I don't think she's trying to date the most intelligent, handsome young man in all of Liverpool," he said jokingly.

"No she simply isn't prepared for your personality. Frankly, nobody but the boys in your little band are!" she replied.

Right, just a friend. Just a friend indeed. Who knows? Maybe he could change that fact.

The picture is of John Lennon's aunt, Mimi Smith, seated in her living room. I do not own the pictures, I only edited them.
