Chapter 4. An Ambush

I woke up at the evening because of a sound of the horn which gave us signal that Vexons are attacking. I got up from the bed as fast as I could and started to put my armor on.

First I came to a wardrobe and took a chain mail neck guard. I started to put it on. Right after it I opened the shell and took hardened leather jacket cursing how stupid I am that I always forget that I put the vest first and then mail neck guard.

When I was dressed up I put on my metal torso armor. I opened next shell and took leg and arm bracers from there. I made whole armor myself because I work as smith and I am quite good so I had some money to make one even for myself.

Every piece was my best work, light and strong, and the forearm bracers had special mechanism built in them. When I moved my fingers I triggered mechanism that exserted two blades from each bracer.

The blades were most expensive piece of armor, they were from titanium and were so sharp that they could cut even through metal if I would hit hard enough. They could be pulled back and nobody knew of them except for those who already saw me fight with them.

When I was done I put my snickers on and sheathed my sword into its scabbard. I took my great hammer and axe from the wall and put them on my back to their scabbards as well. I hung my shield with my signature over them and made a short position in front of a mirror.

I laughed but not for long because I fell on the floor and so did the wall of my fathers house because a tail of great Vexon has demolished it.

I rolled my eyes and ran through the hole to the street. Vexon fell on the house over the street and so I ran to save whoever I could from the ruins. House started to catch the flames from fireplace and so I had to hurry.

I saw our neighbor laying under Vexon's hand. I tried to move him but although he wasn't heavy he was so big I couldn't catch him properly. I didn't have time and so I pulled out my axe and with two strong swings I cut off Vexons hand.

The I rolled it over, picked a beam that fell on him and helped him out from house. I went back for his two kids and then I ran to the square to enlist to militia list as all members had to before fight so it is easier to know who is missing after battle.

Taranis, Kira and Kerim were in group with me and they were already waiting there. When I came, city guard Commander was already giving orders.

- "Vexons have breached through the main gate and took over defense towers on eastern and northern side of the gate. They are pushing forward hard and that is why all groups will go defend the gate. Janes's group will go inform the king and receive reinforcements. You, ... - "he pointed on the group next to us - "... you will go take back Easter tower. Jack's group will take over Norther one. And I warn you Jack no heroic ideas or I will personally cut your head off!"

We laughed because Commander was still angry about our last improvisation when Vexons were also deep in the city and were pushing hard. Me, Taranis, Kira and Kerim have decided to shorten their numbers a bit and so we demolished foundations of southern defense tower. It collapsed and fell on Vexons killing half of the enemy forces by one strike.

When we were reported of course by Commander king congratulated us for brave and well thought action. And he condemned Commander for not doing so himself. Commander hated us ever since and gave us the worst tasks with high probability of dying so he got rid of us.

Commander was green Swergid dragon and if he wasn't green he would quite often got green from anger because of his bad temper. Even now he yelled at us.

- "Do you understand?!?!"

We tried to choke laughter and I said.

- "Yea sure I do. Ha ha ha." and with that we left to reclaim the tower.
